I truly think the Ingress team needs to think outside the box on this. There will never be enough Ingress personnel to satisfy the community with their current “method.” Being included in marketing materials for events all over the world and only having a presence at a single event is…well, I’m not actually sure what that is. I’m thinking something more along the lines of a quasi-FS that’s aimed more at engaging with with people there for the other games (but also bringing out existing agents obviously). Find a point of contact, maybe pay them even. Hang a banner off these Niantic tents and get people talking about the game. Like I mentioned earlier in the thread. Create an item or mission that you can only get at a community day event. Maybe a medal, but why not switch it up?! What about something like a VR shield, but it’s a different color and only the strength of a common shield? Something that can only be obtained by hacking a portal at a community day event and that isn’t so powerful people will travels hundreds of miles for it. Just something unique and fun. I think we could always use a little more fun :) I’m sure you could even find a way to loop it into the storyline since there are some folks out there who would die on the storyline hill vs having a little fun 🤦🏼♂️🤦🏼♂️
anyways, curious to see what this next event is like and if Ingress will still be on the bill. There is supposed to be three, right?
@ZeroHecksGiven Good idea - the pop-up temporary portals could easily come with six unique missions with shiny new badges. These portals could have no burnout, so you could play them all day if you want.
Exactly. I know six missions would go against their own “rules” or guidelines that we’re held against, but I think in the spirit of it being a community day and just for fun, I like to think people would turn a blind eye to it.
PS referencing the fact that I haven’t been able to get some missions approved lately because they re-use portals I used earlier in the banner, which destroys the argument that each mission is reviewed individually.
for ingress they could make a temp banner of 6 missions only available that day and after u have completed it u go to niantic where they are present show it and they give u a small sovuenir or something that would be fun and worth travel for those that are lucky to live in usa.
Why only USA? What about if you complete the “Community Day Mission” and then you get a passcode sent to your email the next day for some gear? That would be nice.
If you cast your mind back, you’ll remember that @NianticThia took NianticTintino around town playing Ingress, so I’d be interested to hear from any Agents who go to that.
@NianticThia The Niantic portals in Brisbane, Australia have been activated in the wrong location. They are at the Roma St Parklands again (like previous Community Day) instead of at the Southbank Parklands.
Ingress has events highlighted for First Saturday on that site, but nothing for Second Sunday, and nothing for what Ingress players could do on those days, so it still feels more like a Pikmin/Pokémon Community Day, rather than a Niantic one that encompasses all current games.
Maybe Transformers: Heavy Metal & Peridot will be added to these Niantic Community Days going forwards? Aware that’s not down to the Ingress team, but if you can pass it forward that’d be great.
I attended a local in person community day in May. I spoke to a niantic rep who was in attendance. They had never heard of Ingress. This was advertised as a Niantic community day, not a pogo community day.
Maybe if you are going to hire people to represent niantic, they should at least know the games.
Niantic community day is just the to promote the "Niantic" brand itself, not any of the specific games. (Go does get some attention as the event is tacked onto an existing Go event.) It's not an Ingress event and you shouldn't think of it as one if you attend.
Comments
Just call it "Community Weekend", with general stuff on the day before Second Sunday.
Saturday could include at least one person from Wayfarer or Niantic (not game specific) - and that person could hand out character cards.
Niantic temporary portals could be up for both days. Maybe the van too.
Ingress personnel could come for Sunday.
This worked extremely well at the Jacksonville Mission Day, a few weeks ago in April.
They’ve been listening and have passed on our feedback. Surely I will drive an hour or two for this…

They need to leverage the local players - I mean we've been doing this sort of Ingress community event org for years now.
I now know all sorts of stuff I never wanted to know about event / photo restrictions in Kings Park, conditions for events in the CBD etc.

yeah that could work also a digital gift for everyone else.
Do the Niantic Community Days fall under in-person events too for Ingress?
That sounds exactly like Mission Day...
So now we have the May “Niantic” Community Day page.
It does again, seem very Pokémon Go focused, with even Pikmin Bloom not being mentioned. Wonder how it’ll go this time.
At the same day as when Niantic will deploy their BBs and shards for Kythera 2, of course 🤦♂️
Meanwhile, any updates on the new tutorial as well as the return of recruiter badge?
At least there’s an event? And maybe then the hired staff might release there’s something happening?
Spoilers: They will not.
The Wayfarer team have confirmed they will be in attendance at one of the London events.

I might even try to go myself.
It's weird, we have three "events" planned in the Seattle area. All within 10-15 miles apart.
Got this notification. Will there be Ingress swag this time?

Lol
I'll escalate to both the Ingress and Niantic Community Day teams!
Can we have some notification about upcoming “Ingress” Community Days please @NianticThia ?
Pikmin Bloom & Pokémon GO players can see that they have Community Days coming up;
on;

So now that we have the schedule, July is “Restocking Weekend” which I guess you could sell as a sort of Community Day?
August 13th is…nothing. Do Niantic not speak to the Ingress team when planning out these “Niantic” Community Day schedules?
The website has always listed FS as ours Community Day event...
Just doesn’t happen on the same day as the other two? Doesn’t seem very “Niantic Community Day” if one game happens on a different day.
Probably because they don't plan on having anything for us :(

Stll should know the brand
They had PoGo and Pikmin postcards previously.
and they also have Niantic brand stickers along with Wayfarer
