Why are commercial items all Japanese?
I often wondered why the commercial items are all Japanese companies, like SoftBank link and ITOEN modifers. Are they the same internationally? It's seems you have more chance getting a SoftBank when hacking a SoftBank store and ITOEN when hacking a vending machine, but are these locations available internationally, or are there alternative sponsers in other regions? Previously Hypercube was Lawson, and Quantum capsule and Aegis shield had sponsers too.. but I can't remember what...😅

The Quantum Capsule was the MUFG Capsule before, from the Japanese bank MUFG. The Aegis Shield was the AXA shield from, you guessed it, AXA. In addition to the Lawson Power Cubes, there were also the CircleK Power Cubes. All these items are/were named the same globally, but if it's a japanese company, only Japan had those sponsored portals. I believe only CircleK (USA) and AXA (global) had sponsored portals related to items outside of Japan?
The reason the sponsored items are all Japanese companies is because, well, only Japanese companies are sponsoring Ingress and are willing to pay money to have these items in the game.
Sponsored Portals outside of Japan (at some point):
I often wondered why the commercial items are all Japanese companies
Because they're the ones that see value in advertising in Ingress.
"sponsored portals related to items" ;)
I sadly missed the sponsorship with Vodafone here in Germany, but I know they had portals as well.
