Feedback On the Micro Shards Event (April 1)

I had a blast with the shards that showed up yesterday (April 1). It was a lot of fun running around, getting keys, connecting things up in order to score the shards. Having so many strategy options was cool and it was also nice having a very definitive reason for battling over control of the target portals!

Hopefully we get more of this type of event in the future. Ideally on the weekends and with a little more warning please! More players started showing up incrementally on both teams as the word got out but it takes a while for folks to realize what's going on and to learn how things work.

Also, some things to experiment with:

 * Possibly spawn new shards incrementally. The early ones sometimes wandered off quite far before people realized what was going on. Might be less of an issue if there was advance warning for the event.

 * Experiment with shards closer and further from the targets. Ideally folks on foot/bike/car could all participate.

 * Experiment with different timing between the jumps. The five-minute pacing was exciting but a bit hectic. Could be good, hard to say.

 * It would be nice if the shards were more visible in the distance on the scanner.

    Yeah, like not putting the target into the same city as the spawns and not starting it on a workday. That way more people could join. As it was, it was very limited. Even being in the same country as those shards it was rather a "aha, can't do anything anyway" in my experience.

  • Feedback: It would be nice to know it's happening before it does.

    They did this during anomalies. It results in all focus on each shard as it spawns, fast captures, then everyone focusing on the next one. Making the game far less dynamic and strategic because there's no need to split your forces, or juggle shards.

    They did this during anomalies too. The shards that were further than walking distance were simply linked in close immediately, so it was basically "Send one car to bring them into where we are and move like the rest".
