"New" glyph sequences

  • They're still there now. No idea if they'll remain until Thursday. I'd plan for them being here until the "Comic Sans faux-Nemesis" goes.

  • Sure, but then I gotta flip the portals I already setup for farming to turn them into L1 (to be guaranteed to get the sequence correct) and use more hack mods because I setup them up yesterday morning assuming that they would turn off the backwardness at some point during the day.

  • Or just glyph the portal as lvl1. Its the same as always. And also you travel faster using r8,r7,r7 and the rest as r1. P1 glyph also gives (for moust of us I guess) the higheat amount of output (accept p8 and p7). but since you cannot build p7 or p8 by your self, it has many upsides only deploying as above. When coming second to a portal, only deploy to build p7/p8 (good for resos).

This way, you travel faster, gain more keys, deploy faster and gain more modds. And also saves a little bit of inventory.

@OnceAMoose I think you missed my point. Just getting the first glyph of the sequence is enough to get you extra keys. If you see: DANGER PRESENT SEE PAST FORGET and just glyph something like DANGER SIMPLE SIMPLE SIMPLE SIMPLE that is enough to get you extra keys and you don't need to remember the whole sequence.

Or, if you are building in an area full of mostly neutral portals, just build L2 (or L1) portals to hack for keys and link them up. Backwards 2 Glyphs are almost indistinguishable from the normal ones.

That’s if you are trying to hack keys for this challenge and don’t really care too much about what you are building up. There’s not a big difference in keys/hack for L2 vs L6 (I have noticed a lot less from L1 though).

Gear farming is another matter altogether though. I am definitely getting a lot less gear this week.

It's really odd for the two people in here complaining about the glyph sequences also got the gold tier badge. Seems the "issue" is very minor if you can still get to 401 links.

Got gold tier on the event, but only platinum on translator, this reverse engineering is keeling my numbers, lol

It's not just the event, that one I managed with Level 1-4 Portals. We are 2 weeks away from another anomaly, and I can't really go there with Level 1-4 XMPs now, can I :(

They could've at least double the hack output for the event

it takes just 2 agents to build a p7 portal so not really hard farm stuff .

And they're back to normal ordering. It was fun while it lasted... I managed to get a video doing a four-glyph sequence with complex and a screenshot of a five-glyph sequence (with complex, because it's muscle memory at this point.) I think I managed to get up better than 80% on fours and better than 50% on fives. I enjoyed the challenge!

The reverse glyph was a hard thing for me. I think I got 3 p6 hacks out of 100 sequences right. Was tough....

I'll be ready for the next thing, Niantic!!!! .... Oh permanent 500m links under fields? .... Brain melts .... Hahaha

I want to throw my 2 cents in.

The reversed glyph sequences were both fun and annoying.

But in retrospect, it showed me just how much I rely on glyphing.

It was much harder to get gear and keys.

Reminiscent of the old days before glyphing was a thing. It presented the necessary difficulty that was destroyed with glyphing came in.

I don't have any idea of a way to keep glyphing in the game, as I enjoy it, and having lower lower resources coming in to provide that necessary challenge.

    @Grogyan I understand where you're coming from.

I see glyphing as a tradeoff between time and effort. I can do it the easy way and tap hack but it takes more time for me to acquire gear, or I can invest more effort by glyphing and spend less time overall. When Niantic throws glyph sequence shenanigans at us they're really just turning the dial on the effort required to get gear faster.

For me, using gear is far more interesting than acquiring it so glyph hacking means I'm spending a larger percentage of my Ingress time on fun and less on drudgery.

  • I'd love to see them go back to the old Glyph values. 10% per successful glyph plus a speed bonus. It made tap hacking viable as a choice vs glyphing, and meant people weren't expected to always glyph. But that would also require shields to go back to 10/20/40.
