[IDEIA] Ingress Seasons and Balance Changes
Hello everyone! Here I am again with another crazy idea. haha
Although I put it in the title as an idea, I believe this topic can be used more for a debate.
Ingress Seasons
The concept of seasons seems to be already being incorporated into ingress. We have had in the first three months of the year, events related to the Kureze Effect. For the next 3 months, it has already been announced that we will have other events, now related to Kythera. Can we call it the "Kythera Season"?
But let's get to the point! What would bring the feeling of playing a different game every 3 months? Balance changes, of course!
Balance Changes
Ingress has had its gameplay mechanics unchanged for years! The last change, that I remember, was the Quantum Capsule nerf. Now it cannot multiply Very Rare items.
So, what do you think about niantic making changes to the game every season? Each season we would have a different ingress to play.
Today there is discussion about whether the Pandemic Bonuses should be kept, or not. Portal Cooldown Time and AP Bonus for Recharge, are the most cited.
These factors can be balanced each season, as needed by the game. Also, other mechanics can be balanced each season as needed by the game. Not all at once, but some things yes and some things no.
Examples:
- Shield Effectiveness
- Weapons Effectiveness
- Recharge effectiveness
- Effectiveness of energy drops on Portals
- And much more
In practice, we can imagine a season where Weapon Effectiveness is increased, encouraging and making it easier to take down Portals, Links and Fields. On the other hand, a 2x AP bonus is added when deploying resonators, which would make it very attractive to reactivate these same destroyed portals.
Could we call it the "Cassandra Neutralizer Season"?
In another season, we can say that Dark XM is back, and it is damaging the energy of the portals, making it fall faster. But the NIA Researchers are working and have managed to make the Portal Recharge doubly effective.
These are just examples, the possibilities are endless! I believe that by making Balance changes regularly, we will have more content being created using the mechanics we already have.
This is my idea and opinion. What do you think about it?

we already have "seasons". Niantic frequently changes the rules. seasoned players talk about "Calvinball".
It's a fun thought!
I notice they change hack output every now and then. Like, sometimes you get lots of shields, but not power cubes. Then the formula is tweaked, and you get lots of cubes but very few ITO. They could work that into the season's theme.
Or NIA could come out with new XM items that do different stuff then the ones that have done the same thing for the last 9 years...
You can only add new items for so long before they become irrelevant or overpowered compared to others. I think Ingress hit that long ago.
