If the intention of the 5-minute cooldown was to encourage players to move, that backfired really bad. For me, it meant standing at a portal (or sitting in a nearby café if I'm lucky) until I get the keys that I need for fielding.
You specifically attacked my gameplay style of not caring about levelling.
One shouldn't be intimidated when she/he expresses opinions about the game.
You really need to specifically point out where you were intimidated, or this is just a tactic to make people unwilling to discuss points with you. There's already enough people who take disagreement as personal attack without claiming that you're being intimidated because people aren't agreeing.
I don't know if it's a language barrier or not, but no-one is attacking anyone, except for you disparaging the way many players enjoy the game. If you genuinely want to improve the situation, please be specific about what you think is intimidation so we can clear up the misconception.
"Back in the day" it worked fine, as people would actually walk to another portal and get keys then walk back. That was at a time where the concept of Layering was in its infancy though, and people didn't need 14 keys to each portal just to field.
As I said, the game has changed since then through many differences, such that even long term players never saw the environment where that limit was effective.
I used to run around and make unique captures during the 5-minute cooldown if there were portals in 2.5 minute distance ... or read a book or newspaper if there weren't any unvisited portals. Still, unpleasant enough if you are forced to stand waiting in cold rain and rushhour traffic.
The way people play today, definitely. And most people back then did have portals within 2.5 minutes, because portals were mostly at large parks or in city centers etc.
But as I said, the game has moved on from that sort of play, and everything is layers layers layers now, so there's probably cause for at least lowering the value even if it's not kept at 90s.
@saarstahl , Change.org, and other online petition websites. Some have online FB groups that threaten to Boycott PoGo and Niantic regarding Niantic's change with the Gym and Pokestop Interaction distance last year. I didn't understand why most of the PoGo players were upset with the change. It was a learning experience to know that they have disabilities from their chronic diseases while some had post-COVID complications. Quite understandable.
Not all agents care about leveling in the long run because they find the plot incomplete, game design lacking, technical issues annoying together with the spoofing issues that have shadowed this game. When the above issues are voiced and do not agree to your and other pro-Niantic agents/reps; one of you just leaves a comment to either **** or heckle that agent. It happened to other agents in the Spoofing thread and it happened to me. That issue of not being community-like was brought up in the app review which was deliberately removed. Instead of getting defensive, why not improve the game itself and solve the issues concerning this game. Words mean nothing if you do not show any results.
When the above issues are voiced and do not agree to your and other pro-Niantic agents/reps; one of you just leaves a comment to either **** or heckle that agent.
None of this happened in this thread, nor does it happen regularly elsewhere. But I see where this is coming from now, and I'll do the same thing as I do with other agents who take disagreement as a personal attack, and disengage from interacting with them.
Ahh the joys of "I'm going to go down and recharge portals ahead of the person who's attacking my farm, so that they run out of ground XM to use to attack." or "Let's plan this farm so that it has a 20 minute walking lap between all the portals, so that XM comes back before we get to the second lap."
Now, 20% of my inventory is power cubes, the majority of those being Hybercubes, and the concept of running out of XM is laughable.
I try to avoid interacting with you too because of the example and behavior you have shown to new and existing players in this forum, particularly those who express a different view than yours. It has been your way or no highway in this forum. I question why this avenue of communication is even called a "Community Forum." It should be called a billboard because one has to agree to what an XM ambassador has to say and opposing views or areas of concerns brought up by others should be non-existent. It's all good news you all want to hear and ignore areas of improvement in this game. Totally a propaganda billboard and not a forum.
That's how perry is regardless of the XMA title. They are not Niantic employees. Just because someone hopes for something from Niantic, doesn't make them pro-Niantic. A lot of people moan and complain whenever Niantic states anything regardless if it's news, update, or just a greeting.
In general the social media presence for pogo is quite large with a number of big YouTube personalities. With no dedicated community forum a lot of the direct interactions between the community and Niantic goes through these people.
Also given the higher profile nature of pogo since it is a part of the pokemon franchise universe, a lot more articles and web traffic follows.
Do I want 90s cooldowns? Of course. But you don't appreciate it as much when it is permanent.
Do I like waiting 5 minutes between Hacks to farm keys? Of course not, that is why I use heatsinks.
Double R7s, I'm 50/50, my city has officially gone below the threshold of opposition numbers that can make a natural L8 portal almost 2 years ago. Therefore we need our opposition to have the opportunity to make L7 portals to farm from.
Recharging, 65AP is a little too high.
The power gap is just too low, and no incentive to take down fields.
The events page for the coming quarter reflects this, with linking up to 8km under a field. Where the majority of players live in the cities and suburbs, 8km is effectively a BAF.
Right now, the developers need to pandering to players demands, stop doing silly things, and rebalance the entirety of Ingress. Because they are ruining Ingress, FAST.
I can agree these changes should be reversed. The only problem is there are less players now than before covid even started. So the double 7 deploy going away will hurt. But the game has been on easy mode for too long and it hasn't helped player retention. Something else should be done.
Yeah, I know what should be done: do something real about spoofers and people who immediately and directly benefit from them. But since Niantic has been WIP on it since who knows when, people are gonna keep leaving.
Right now, the developers need to pandering to players demands, stop doing silly things, and rebalance the entirety of Ingress. Because they are ruining Ingress, FAST.
I think Niantic is changing recharging from 65 AP per tap, to 10 AP per tap - so people will stop recharging, so more portals will go grey - so they can have special events (medals) that include capturing greys. Even in high-traffic areas.
I would think they'd have a global activity target - to decide when/if to decrease from two L7s to one. Once each region averages more than some number of agents, going back to one L7 per agent won't hurt play so much.
About time between hacks... The world is getting faster, and people's attention spans are getting smaller. But OTOH, multi hacks seem more abundant. I have a boatload, but I can only play 2 mods per portal. Niantic probably has a big formula for this dynamic too. (Or, they should.)
so people will stop recharging, so more portals will go grey
We're already at 70%+ grey in most cities, and even higher in rural areas. That's a conspiracy theory with zero substantive basis. If anything they should want more deployed portals to make the game look less empty.
Personally it could be 0 ap and I'd still recharge the same amount, I usually only keep keys for farms, spine, anchors, far away portals (till they get destroyed), so I can't see the amount of grey portals increase by much if the ap amount changed
Pretty certain you and I had this discussion before, and you couldn't bring a valid reason why the 90 second hack time should leave, and nothing has changed since then.
I do think that double r7 deploy should stay because the player base just isn't enough to warrant dropping it anymore. Its not like it's easy mode just now when it comes to that, it's still not easy to get enough players in my area to make l7s on a regular basis, for my team, only certain places we can. Realistically, removing the double r7 would just favour the more dominant teams anyway
The more I think about it, the more I'm actually annoyed that niantic are just pushing ahead with reverting, rather than opening up discussions with the people who play the game. As I've said several times, I think most people are fine with the ap being reverted for charging, so thats fine, but with the hack time and the double r7, why are they not putting out a poll, or opening g up discussions to see the pros and cons from the player base to see if the current ways are good or if it changing it back would be better (it wouldnt)
the community manager could create a thread on this and say from the views how niantic feels why they will revert so the users feel more connected not sure why they havent done that since we have a CM now.
The discussions have been had in their visibility, here on the forums multiple times. If they want to read discussion, it's all here and flares up every time we have a change reverted, going back to when we lost Double R8 deploy, then no R8s in the store, etc.
The discussion is all there for them to read, if they choose to.
That isntrue to an extent, but i suspect that the nia workers don't want ro enter the forums for the flack (sometimes rightly, sometime wrongly) they get. But when I say they should ask opinions, do it in game, put a pop up saying about a questionare (and make one) about how they feel x changes are, y changes are, etc.
And also do as @mortuus said, explain whybthey think its a good idea, though thst might lead to a big level of disconnect between developer and player base
PokeGo players just complained enough that NIA was like, ok we'll make the covid bonuses permanent.... Doubt the ingress community could reach that factor

twitter mostly and famous streamers speaking in general for the community so niantic listens on that surely.
The Silph Road and the PokemonGo subreddits also have/had Niantic reps in them, and they definitely read the posts there too.

how did agents make MU without layers?

These covid-19 changes do need to go
90 seconds between hacks is way way too short!
