Coming Soon: Reduction of Recharge AP from 65AP to 10AP
Reverting Temporary Changes
Effective 31 March, AP for Portal recharging will return to its original value of 10 AP, down from 65 AP.
Each quarter, we will evaluate the following temporary changes added in early 2020 to determine their impacts on gameplay while considering real world circumstances:
* Number of Level 7 Resonators deployed per Portal by Level 7+ Agents return to its original 1 deploy count, down from 2 deploys per Portal
* Portal cooldown between hacks to be adjusted up from 90 seconds
Agents will be given at least two weeks' notice of planned changes made to the temporary changes above.
From the Events post. Figured a number people missed this one.

Good
65ap is too OP for way too long. About time it reverts.
So they are still pushing ahead with the hack time increasing despite how unpopular it was? The ap thing I don't mind either way, but the hack time might **** the game for a loooooooot of people.
The l7 resos I prefer to keep, dont think there's enough of a player base in vast majority of places to warrant it being put back
I interpret it to mean they are still deciding when to increase hack cooldown and, in particular, by how much.
I fully expect that they will announce that 2x7 will end July 1, and cooldown will increase to at least 2.5 min Oct 1.
I’m really really really hoping it’s not more than 2.5.
As for 65 AP/charge back to 10, I’m actually surprised it has taken this long. I have taken fairly heavy advantage of it for past 2 years because it’s by far the easiest way to stockpile AP. It’s also super tedious and I think I’ll enjoy no longer being tempted to exploit it.
From the statement, they're choosing to make a decision at a later date. The decision may be to keep it forever, or to revert it at a point.
This has been a huge reason people aren't out leveling. Good to see it disappear.
As if it makes any difference. What is there to look forward to when one goes out and level up to 16? Recursion? The benefits are so absurd and it's not really enough to entice players out there considering there is inflation. On the other hand, this move can accelerate the reduction in CORE subscriptions, particularly with players who cannot walk some distance either from disability or long-term ailment (i.e., COVID 19 long-haulers). It just so happen that the backlash in Ingress does not have any effect, unlike in PoGo wherein the players got so irate with Niantic's change with the Gym and Pokestop Interaction distance last year.

I agree with this, this game is dying and every day there are less and less players (at least in my area), having only one L7 resonator per agent would require 3 agents to make a lvl 7 portal, that's more than the regular players from my faction in my city (a small city with a population of around 250k people).
I personally believe if they remove the 2 L7 resos per agent it would ruin the game for many. Why can't it stay for ever just like they did with the 80m radius for pokemon GO? If we want it to stay we must speak now so the bots running this thing can hear us, even if we're few.
At some point, you just have to accept that we play Ingress because we enjoy playing Ingress, rather than "What have you done for me lately?".
The decision should be obvious, keep it as is, it speeds the game up and encourages more playing, with no downsides
Plenty of people disagree, so the decision is not 'obvious'.
The 5 minute window was originally created to ensure that people actually move while playing Ingress, instead of sitting in one place. The PoGo attitude definitely matches the 90s cooldown, but that wasn't the original intent. Farming a single portal over and over for keys or gear is less in the spirit of the original game, though all the changes since then have damaged that spirit.
So it's a debate. Certainly not an obvious answer.
is a good change, ppl usually use that ap bonus for fs@home pop apex and just do crazy ap sit home.. how fun is that? glad to see it come to and end, hope they do same with r7 next month,, the hack cooldown doesnt bother me so much..
I kinda want the R7s to stay because of the reduced number of players, and it's a good incentive to get out and meet up. 2 people making a P7 but 8 making a P8 doesn't change the playing field that significantly, but it makes it easier to have higher level gear in places with fewer players.
Yes, people missed it (which I called out in the other thread) because Niantic intentionally buried it deep in that other post.
I can understand reducing it from 65 AP, but 10 AP was always too low in the first place. Niantic needs to stop looking at the state of the game pre-pandemic as if it was perfect. MANY things about it were unbalanced, and recharging being too low was one of them.
As a suggestion: Maybe 25 or 35 AP instead.
It's a bad decision. But we've already noticed that Niantic never ... never ... ever listened to a player.
@Perringaiden , I play due to my own reasons and not because I have to do it like a chore. I don't really care how I reduce my inventory (whether it is from recycling and recharging or deploying casually), Particularly when it's time to get the usual items from the CORE subscription. Besides, what's the point of leveling up to 16 and collecting all those badges only to find out that this game is going to get shut down just like the others? That's exactly the point that the other agents are pointing out there. Can't even recruit and retain players to sustain this game. It does not matter what Niantic does at this point, will just have to enjoy the present because we don't know what will happen in the future.
What's the point of doing anything if we're going to die anyways?
The game is hitting its 10th anniversary in 8 months. That's far longer than the majority of a lot of mobile apps. Hitting 16 serves as bragging rights or a nice place to plateau. The additional badges have been personal goals for all agents regardless of meeting level 16. The recursion has served as a means for people to prestige and switch factions without having to do it through support. It also adds wings for anything you onyx multiple times for more bragging rights.
Level 9-16 has been around since 2014 so I don't think any additional levels have been their interest especially with recursion added. Anything beyond 8 really doesn't give any net positive advantage except recharge distance and your tank.
Oh yes, getting to Level 16 is a goal for most agents particularly if they have a network to do it. It is not really their own product. Just get silver-spooned, and voila "I leveled up!" Leveling up and getting the badges is just simply for bragging rights just to fulfill something that one cannot achieve IRL. Nothing new nor exciting for Ingress Prime particularly the 10th year anniversary is approaching. It's like shopping for a car and you are stuck with the same design and features for the last 10 years. Plus, it is plagued with a lot of known issues such as spoofing. Btw, if Niantic decides to nerf the deployment of Level 7 resonators, it may be good for some agents who are trying to trim down their inventories and ditch the CORE subscription.
In a way True but at the moment lag and other issues makes it hard recruit new agents and make them stay in long run
I recursed and levelled back to 16 in 3 months with basically zero interaction with others, during Covid. It was most definitely "my own product", and a useful activity for me to ensure that I got out of the house at a time when there was nothing else to do.
We all play for our own reasons. For some it's AP, for some it's activity, for some it's community. If we were playing just to reach 16, I'd have quit in 2014.
Give me back my way to hone in on "perfect numbers" without complex calculating and silly Tetrising of numbers ending in 5 🤣 10AP makes it so you can get to a round number, then just recharge your way to the number you want to hit.
I believe this webpage is called the “Community forum.” Forum means a medium for open discussion or voicing of ideas concerning matters to the upcoming changes and the future of this game. I do not believe that it is appropriate for one to intimidate another agent nor delve into the personal matters of another agent especially when she/he tells an honest opinion of this game.
Leveling up and getting the badges is just simply for bragging rights just to fulfill something that one cannot achieve IRL.
That doesn't sound very community like. Don't hide behind deflection because legit criticism is made about your comment.
Is this aimed at me? Please highlight where I 'intimidated' you. My last response was literally a rebuttal of your disparaging how I play. Your unfounded claim undermined my personal experience. You can't tell me I'm intimidating you by disagreeing with your opinion of my personal experience.
What is really the psychology of leveling up in a game and getting the bragging rights? Did I rattle some feathers?
To be clear, I literally said that levelling up and bragging were not the reason people continue to play. Levelling hasn't mattered to me since 2014, yet I'm still playing. I don't need to have bragging rights, because I don't think it's worth bragging about. There are many people who play more than me, and many people who play less.
The reason why people continue to play is the camaraderie of the community, and the challenge of the opposition. When you're all alone, the game sucks. When you're working with a team, it's a fun environment. When you've got no-one to play against, it's boring in some respects, so you find other ways to challenge yourself, like Sojourner streaks, or completing multi-hear Onyx badges.
Do people feel proud of those achievements? Yes. Do they tell others? Sure. But no-one's feeling ruffled when the AP is reduced from sitting at home on the couch.
You're the one attacking people for enjoying the game outside of levelling. The only person in the thread so far that thinks the only important part of the game is leveling, seems to be you.
Ingress is a diverse game with many separate streams of play, and many diverse players with different goals and achievements.
As if it makes any difference. What is there to look forward to when one goes out and level up to 16?
If this is how you feel, I suggest taking a break, find something that energizes you. If you find that you're missing Ingress, come back, find another way to enjoy the game that isn't tied to a number, whether level or AP. If Ingress is for you, it won't be because of an extrinsic reward from a game company running on autopilot in many aspects.
It'll be because there's an element of the game that you find enjoyable to yourself, that you get an intrinsic enjoyment from. If not, there's other things to try.
Complaining that the game is dying and nothing makes it worth playing undermines and devalues every other active player, and is frankly... rude.
Your recursion in another thread really shows who is into leveling and recursing. I am not attacking people for enjoying the game. Just simply sharing my opinion or review of this game in a forum. I don't believe it is justified that you personally rant at me when I am not even referring to you.
I don't believe it is justified that you personally rant at me when I am not even referring to you.
Specifically asked if you were talking to me, and you replied...to me.
from a game company running on autopilot in many aspects.
Made me chuckle to read this phrase when I realized how true it is.
I think that we're starting to see real changes to that, but it's been true for quite some time.
@Perringaiden , I don't know why you are so defensive. It just so happened that my views and experiences are different from yours. It's just as you mentioned, we came from a diverse background. One shouldn't be intimidated when she/he expresses opinions about the game. I believe that intimidation in this forum is another reason, why some agents gave up on the game compounded by the lack of action from the support department. So, they just leave their honest reviews of the game somewhere else, discouraging potential players.
How did the PoGo players communicate with Niantic? As far as I know there is not even a community forum for that game.
