Shut ingress in russia
Hey, Niantic! All serious companies are pulling out of russia. How about shutting down all portals and pokestops in russia and belarus? Just a suggestion...

Ah yes, just like imposing sanctions on a country that only affects the working class and not the authorities of the country. We really are solving things here with clout.
Anyways, the portals come from the people. It seems more like a slap in the face for people who are currently in Russia.
this would take work on Niantic's part. i'd rather see them spending their time fixing bugs.
disabling any Niantic games in Russia would do nothing to help the Ukraine.
Haha, hey is this you, op?
You stole my idea from TG channel :/
I don't believe they have the ability to do things like that. They've said in the past that they can't shut off portals in places that are under COVID lockdown, so I'm guessing they can't pull the plug and make a Russia-shaped hole in the Portal Network.
they said that... and you believed them?
I believe they don't have the manpower to do things like track worldwide covid lockdowns, and control portal access in those regions, nor would they want to do so for people who can reach those portals without breaching lockdown rules.
But they do have the power to turn off any portal at any time, just like in PoGo how some portals are time restricted and switch off when it gets too late in the evening.
They can geoblock countries like pogo in china
Two years passed and it seems that OP has changed mind.

Yeah, I will definetly solve all problems!
Man, seriously? Do you think we support that? We're horrified!
It's a slap in the face for people in Ukraine that get shot with real weapons while people in the aggressor country can enjoy themselves firing virtual weapons on portals.
So what's the purpose of all of you proactively urging for Niantic's banning the games in russia and belarus?
When such ban has not been formally required by the government of United States or European Union?
When there are more specific and effective ways to help stop the war, than calling out Niantic here?
To destroy this game as much as possible? To torment Russian players to the greatest extent???
I know that you may say "sanctions will contribute to peace" but I don't think so in this case.
Sounds like "sanctions carnival" when even games like ingress and pogo are being grilled.
An example of "how to further escalate this craziness" in this should-not-be-a-debate debate. Does it help?
I feel like this would just be inviting spoofers and griefers to interfere in the gameore
100% do it.
random citizen aren't aware of what's happening.
WOuld be better if every hack or pokestop use give a media / popup there warning about what's happening worldwide
Or add some glyphs
No....at least not that.
It would do plenty. It would withdraw another service from Russia, and annoy people there, because they're losing things they love, because of Putin. If they lose enough, they protest. If enough protest, governments change.
Every drop in the ocean helps. Even if it is a small drop.
As for how long it would take them to do it? Well, as a coder, I could do it in about 2 minutes. All of their portals have addresses. Those addresses have a country identifier. It would be TRIVIAL to make them disabled.
However I also like the idea of dropping media about what's really happening on each portal hack. That may be even better.
While as individuals we all deeply sympathize with what people are going through and wish nothing but peace and safety for people in Ukraine, we do not want Niantic as a company to become a vehicle for political messages and content of hatred by participating into the "sanctions carnival". I suppose @NianticThia has expressed similar opinions very clearly in another post and I think it's a proper response.
I personally dislike to a great extent requests like "ban Niantic games in Russia to make Russian people suffer (because they allowed this war to happen and they should take responsibility for that)". The idea behind such request is blatant or implied hatred and malevolence towards the entire race, which violates the guidelines of this community. Companies with brain won't do that craziness if not required by law.
It's up to the company to decide if to do punishment. If they don't want it and general players don't want it and while both you and me know what really helps stop the war, could you please refrain from recklessly and meaninglessly dragging everyone innocent into these political conflicts?
If not banned, at least do not add Kureze beacons to Russia. Even EA is dropping anything Russia related from their games.
Like the idea of media with a message about what's happening in Ukraine. The more they know what is happening stronger we stand with Ukraine
I'm not ok with ornaments for the third round of kureze in Moscow.
It's just disgusting actually. Makes me want to cry.
What's a shiny beacon? .... Take the kureze ornaments down in Russia.
Or have them not add all all to the global score.
Keep game play. But an event?
Puke.
Not happening, they even let the occupants play with Niantic deployed beacons at annexed Crimea as you can see on Intel.
Shame on Niantic for that.
This round of events is the same as last round, and completely data-driven. There is no manual selection of locations. Niantic flashes ornaments in advance to allow for review of selected portals, and removal of some if needed. So I think let's wait and see what Niantic does. It's still 2 weeks before this event takes place, and the time is there to fine-tune selections.
Honestly, local players have nothing to do with government or war. And I really hope that NIA wouldn’t punish us. It won’t help to stop the war or improve situation. It’ll only bring more hatred to innocent people. You want us to be aware? We are very much aware, but we can do nothing to stop it.
For all you who live in other countries and give advice based on your society.. just try to understand. It’s different here. In Russia protests solve nothing at all, other than the fact that you can easily be badly beaten by national guards, go to prison for 3 years, lose your job, be banned in all banks, be kicked out of the university just because you are holding a “No war” poster. Believe me, we were protesting against many things during last several years. Did it bring any changes? No. Did it ruin lives of thousands of ordinary citizens who just wanted to live their lives? Yes. Our government very well knows that a lot people are against this war, but they don’t care.
The only thing I ask you all for is just stay human. You can and should hate and stand against war and violence, but you shouldn’t hate people who were just unlucky to be born or live in the territory whose government decided to show off in front of the world.
And yes, for this comment I can easily get 3 years prison. Think about it.
However, Kureze ornaments in Russia were excluded. Instead of BATTLE BEACONS, VIA LUX beacons should be launched as a symbol on all Phase 1 and 2 portals on the day of the event.
However, Kureze ornaments in Russia were excluded.
Encouraging people to go out during a tense time is very different from allowing them to make their own personal in-situ decisions though.
Hey, Niantic. You missed Kaliningrad. It is also a Russian city.
edit: thanks
The people from whom we expect solidarity and from whom the whole world is now waiting for understanding have succumbed to hatred.
And this is what some politicians are trying to achieve - for the whole world to be obsessed with hatred, for people to quarrel with each other, for nations to quarrel with each other. And the most terrible thing is that some national stereotypes win, and not reason and the desire for peace and freedom.
Not sure what sanctions the USA has put in place for Russia, whether it includes severing internet connections to the country.
Niantic has this ability already, just not in Ingress, yet.
After the pogo peak, multiple places formerly requested pokemon go stops be removed, and Niantic did enable these stops to be locked down.
I don't particularly want our Russian friends to be cut off from Ingress.
