"4. Second Sunday: We'll continue Second Sundays but we're going to revisit the event format next year. I'd like to use Second Sundays for more than only missions."
The idea of having two events with the task of doing six missions always seemed ridiculous to me. This would be a good change that will allow the Mission Day and Second Sunday badges to coexist together.
Love the medal design. I just hope it doesn't take more than a year to get the medal to Onyx, especially for an event whose counter can't go up more than once a month.
I'm confused by this badge which looks more like it is referencing an agent's profile rather than (round) missions. Guess we will be deviating from missions at some point.
Indeed, the medal looks good. The laconic and austere style continues the line of classic medals quite well. A bit of a pity that there is no classic gloss on the platinum and onyx. Also, it might have looked more interesting if the small elements were turquoise.
I noticed that too, but the posts above make it seem like missions may not be the only focus in the future.
I like it! It is minimalist and classic. My only comment is the lack of accent colors. 5 minutes of editing to add some of the classic cyan accent color looked like this:
Which doesn't look totally right but does seem to "pop" a bit more.
The concept looks fine, but it's not black enough, especially when comparing to the original ones (that should be used as the benchmark):
The badge seems to simply be colour adjusted, rather than having any real work done to make it look unique. This is why it looks bland in comparison. No dark and contrasted edges, no badge sheen, no individual gradients and no teal.
It's nice, but could have been so much better. In fact, managed to do a quick mock-up in five minutes:
Apart from a few rough edges, it seems to meet the original design language a lot better (maybe too much teal lol)
Also "widely requested new profile medal", this was fairly split amongst the community. Many were happy to work on a badge they were never going to achieve otherwise, now it'll forever be badge locked at whatever level they have it. If Niantic wants to listen to players requests, then sort out the latency and other bugs!!
@NianticThia I am sure you are reading the comments, but in case you miss them, can we please have the colors modified since they haven't been released yet? Both versions shared by @BERN1ESANDERS and @oscarc1 really bring the medals out! 🤩
Sad to see the mission day credit go away, especially since COVID is still hitting my area hard. But new medals are exciting, and hopefully helps newer players level up.
Kill off one badge, introduce another that is basically the same thing. meh
If you are going to introduce a new badge, then introduce new requirements. If it is going to be the same thing as MD, then leave it as MD. If it's going to be new, then give it to us as new. Not a rebadged medal.
New medals that you can only get one credit for per month isn't going to help new agents level up. They gotta play to gain levels. You don't get AP from doing 6 missions a month to level up.
**** off one badge, introduce another that is basically the same thing. meh

Just so we're all clear, no medal is being killed off. Traditional Mission Days are planned for this year, and the devs have said that Second Sundays are likely to change in requirements over time. Both types of events will continue running and both medals will be available to earn.

The medal design looks lovely! Any chance we could get the requirements for the tiers? 😊
I want to complain about the benzene in the middle, lol.
Yes please, what are the requirements for the different tiers?
Curious to know how many years it will take to get black. 😉
Also, I can't help but notice this bit:
"We’re looking forward to more variations in the way you may explore the world via Ingress during Ingress Second Sundays later in 2022."
This sounds like there might be more tasks then just completing missions coming for the Second Sunday.
I love design !
@InvestigateXM bet like MD : 1/3/6/10/20
Medal looks nice. They should apply those same colors to fix the Maverick badge.
If tiers are like IFS, I'm not even gonna unlock it.
Why they can't just post all of the information at the same time is annoying. String everyone along, for as long as possible.
Hmmm 😅
Adding on to this point, Brian posted this on Twitter back in December:

What's the font on second picture(the one with medals)?WhatTheFont says it's Ethnocentric light.

Seems to be "Ethnocentric Light"

Yes!! That's it! Awesome!

Follow-up, looks like @BERN1ESANDERS had the same idea lol
Same thing as above, just with some less teal:
Or maybe the rose color from Pioneer, Liberator and Purifier ones.
silver and plat colors are really hard to tell apart...

Reminds me of a fidget spinner lol.

Oh, the return of "Fidget Spinner" 🤣
Why...
Agree, @BERN1ESANDERS and @oscarc1 designs looks really great!
There has been earlier proposals for a new looks for other Medals, with no luck so far:
If remembering correctly the Yearly Medal was designed once by community member, also NIA did change the Mission Day Medal previously.
So do not see any reason why not to enhance the look of the Second Sunday Medal (and two other also shown in above links).
Yeah, its a fidget spinner badger all the way.

The badge looks hideous.
