Are all places already marked? The nearest city where they will be is more than 2 hours away (in another state).
@NianticBrian@NianticThia Do you not plan to put BB in the store for 1-2 pcs? It's a pretty stupid solution for 1 person to buy all BB. And the other players would just hang out and have a free medal.
From what I understand (I don't really follow the intel search), only the quantity is changing in cities that were 'selected'.
The nearest for me is about an hour drive, I wonder how they chose these 'active' portals. Enough active portals in my immediate surroundings, and the selected city doesn't seem all that more active. Guess we'll have to wait and see.
From what I've gathered based on looking at my local area, Phase 2 portals were decided based on phase 1 player deployed BB activity. Higher activity Phase 1 portals are the only ones that are being selected anywhere near me. My town, Peru Indiana, we had our own organized mini anomaly, so we had 7 players all actively battling over portals cluster style in player deployed bbs, but only a couple of the portals in my town got the ornament, and they were the ones where we had the most people focused on a single portal at a time.
Disneyland all had ornaments show up within the park boundaries, could they please be removed? This game should be free without entry fees for a global competition. Hopefully, you can see the problem of having a location with such high entry fees for the Kureze Effect competition. You have worked hard at making it accessible to everyone. But $110 entry fee makes it only accessible to a few agents who might have annual passes or can afford the high entry fee. There has been historical presedent for the removal of portals that can only be reached by paying. Computer generation has it's obstacles. This happens to be a big one. Could you please make it so everyone can play? (Or not at all) to make it fair?
I agree with @TMoneyistheOne. In no way should any of the Battle Beacons be deployed in a theme park such as Disneyland or Disney World. I’m not Paying close to $100 for a ticket just to battle it out in Disney. As with every Anomaly in the past that weren’t in a theme park, it should be free for any Agent in the general area to play, not hiding behind a ticket counter!
In my area, agents deployed beacons to 'battle' on a cluster of portals. Both factions used these portals, yet they are not ornamented. No portal in the whole province was determined as 'active'.
Lest anyone think this is an exaggeration, it's actually worse than that. While it says "from $109" if you actually try to buy tickets, you'll see it's $145 on Feb 19. The only days I can find where it's actually $109 are a couple of mid-week days in August.
It's a lot more than $110 dollars, but it's not the only place in the area to at battle beacons either. You can literally go anywhere that has ten portals and earn the badge and score points no reason pass holders can't be a part of the fun and if I was still a passholder, I'd definitely go.
Then don't go. There are literally tons of places outside of Disney you could play. You can put your own battle beacons up anywhere. Let pass holders who already have tickets have some fun.
Disneyland really isn't an affordable option for many people. Instead, you are suggesting that an agent initiated RBB event is as much fun as the Kureze Effect. Having played in San Diego for Phase one, I must say that the Niantic deployed beacons resembles an anomaly that we are familiar with. It forces us to walk farther, anticipating where the next beacons would show up. In the case for Disneyland, if Niantic decides to remove the ornaments, agents in Orange County will have the option to go to nearby Hollywood or San Diego, which they will probably need to do anyway, because of a lack of Disneyland passes.
We're very excited about the Kureze event in San Francisco, but unfortunately there's a conflict with a local (non-Ingress) happening. The Kureze Effect event falls on the same day as the Chinese New Year parade, and several of the ornamented portals fall within the road-closure zone for the parade/street market. Roads will be closed in the orange shaded area for a street festival from Friday through Sunday; the parade will take place on Saturday.
While the parade runs from 5-9pm local time, the streets along the parade route will be closed hours in advance. I would like to suggest moving the Kureze Effect zone to the purple shaded region, away from the Chinese New Year festivities and heavy traffic due to road closures. What actions should we take to make this happen?
This is a historical post about street closures during the 2020 event; the SF transportation authority hasn't yet posted info for this year, but we don't have any reason to think it will be materially different.
For me, locally, it would appear that two portals have been selected. Two portals for three hours. Is this supposed to be fun? Even missions require a minimum of six waypoints. Furthermore, no one locally would consider these portals to be highly active, and the most compelling reason to hang out at them under normal circumstances would be the bus stops that they're adjacent to.
Between these abysmal choices and the examples others have posted, it would seem that the failure modes for the portal selection process are fairly awful. I do appreciate the idea of bringing automation to the process of selecting anomaly portals (the old method of selecting and working with POCs doesn't scale), but this feels less like an algorithm augmenting and extending human judgement, and more like hastily slapped together code intending to replace humans who went AWOL.
No one is saying you have to go to Disney. Just don't take that away from people that want to go or have the means to go, just because you don't. I'm sure there are agents with passes or who are cast members who would be thrilled to get the chance to have a battle beacon near them. You being jealous that it costs you money that they already paid is no reason to remove the beacons.
Why would you take that away from passholder and cast members when you can just decide not to go? That would be like me demanding they remove battle beacon portals from Jacksonville when it is to far and expensive to drive to when would choose to go to Orlando anyway.
Because it's stupid to have event portals behind a paywall. Simple; there is no reason to move them to another location, so everybody can benefit from them.
One of the goals of these "distributed live events" is to broaden participation in the events and make them accessible to a wider range of Agents than the live events of old. If the solution is to tell people "don't go," then that's a failure of the event to meet its goals.
The expectation for an anomaly is that the playbox be generally accessible to the public without needing to pay fees beyond that associated with travel and lodging. It's never been a requirement that everyone be able to feasibly travel to any event site of their choosing. Otherwise, there'd be zero sites and zero events.
But they aren't behind a paywall. If they are removed, you're just removing the possibility for someone to participate who is already there. Stop being a killjoy. By that same token I could say spots in other countries are behind a paywall because I would have to spend money to fly to them.
The closed-to-cars zone typically jams up traffic downtown and disrupts public transit (all buses in that part of SF). Trust me, no one is asking to drive cars in the city's Chinatown/Financial District under such conditions. Traffic will also limit the flexibility of bike teams, which are a big draw for many players; some agents also aren't fans of walking through dense crowds.
To echo @Toxoplasmolly, the goal here should be to involve agents in as many ways as possible. Holding this event in the same location as a major annual festival is going to work at cross-purposes to that goal
There is a global competition and scoring aspect to all this, so what happens anywhere in the world is relevant to all of us.
In the long run, I don't see that replacing "who can pay to travel to an anomaly site" with "who can pay the entrance fee to the private grounds Niantic has chosen" as an improvement to Anomalies, especially when the latter has almost never been a concern thus far (the Navarro events might be the notable exceptions, if they count?).

well, wait and see, nothing in my area so far

Cuz its 110$ entry maybe? Thats alot of money to access some BB portals dont u think grendel

A hack has never been suggested as being sufficient!

It's one thing if Agents decide to play on portals whose access requires that substantial fee be paid to a private entity.
It's quite another for Niantic to select such portals for play, especially when Niantic's chosen portals are worth 5x the points.
@NianticThia @NianticHilda I'm writing on behalf of AM01-CHARLIE-02.

There is so much wrong with your post idont even know where to begin.

You shouldn't be driving while playing anyway. Get out and walk those streets. If there's a festival going on that will make the event even more fun.

That is ridiculous.
It's not ridiculous. Demanding Niantic remove a battle beacon portal that in no way would affect your participation is what is ridiculous.

Boohoo, you can't cargress. Park and experience some culture while you're playing some time.
