Blank map on startup as in when the assets don't load? ie no fields, no links, sometimes no portals even showing? That's been occurring more frequently (to me at least) lately. Trying to do a drone move/hack you have to wait for assets to load most of the time. Same issue on WI-FI as on mobile data. I figured it was tied to the latency issue. Most of the time it does require closing and re-launching the app. Wish we just had one of those handy dandy force sync buttons.

Thank you for the Roadmap! NGL, I'd have loved just a tiny bit more information on some of the things, but it still gets me excited.

Yup. In the beginning Prime startup was slow AF. They made improvements to this, but after a few iterations, the issue of the map not (fully) loading began. So now on startup, most of the times the map is empty (or partly loaded).

Then there was a patch with a “tentative/speculative fix”, but it never worked and we never heard about it again. This was around two years ago.

which is also the reason why I have no faith in this being resolve within the next few months. And it’s frustrating. Throw in the complete lack of updates or communication regarding these issues, and it’s just plain sad.

  • In 2022, we will focus on

    Adding camera-based AR to Ingress.

Ooh, like the portal glasses on Ingress Obsessed? Could be interesting.... 🤓

  • you guys experience lag?

anyways, i would like to see more graphics like the one here created from portal scan data, https://niantic.helpshift.com/hc/en/3-ingress/faq/2398-portal-scanning/?s=portal-network&f=portal-scanning

There are really only two kinds of updates:

    1. "We're working on it."
    2. "We solved it, and here's the proof."

We just got an update in the style of 1. What exactly are you expecting? Even the likes of Google and Slack go, "Working on it… Still working on it… Still working on it… Maybe identified a cause… Still working it… Maybe have a fix… Fixed… Summary of Issue." Where Niantic differs is in the speed with which they roll out fixes.

By the way, what is enlightenment fighting for now if there are no shapers anymore?

Dont see really how camera AR will keep interest from causal players seems its not what ingress is about.

Why not daily tasks or even monthly in cells? Something to battle together with team to reach objective... Not scanning features most think is tedious and boring.

Really think we should get those AMA back most would like that and we miss them.

  • @NianticThia thank for Q1, and i need capsule media please

  • Se não banir os trapaceiros, será em vão. Alguns abusos atiram nível de perseguição pessoal. O Ingress é um jogo maravilhoso, mas infelizmente é também um celeiro de gente tóxica.

    Thanks for the roadmap, Thia!

I am not particularly happy with the idea of having a new medal for SS when the current MD medal was just fine (despite what a few might say... "waaah its losing its value waaah"). Eitherway, I hope the tiers of the new medal are not going to be like the IFS medal. Just a note: if it takes more than a year for someone to get Onyx tier on a medal that can be credited just once a month, you are asking for a tad bit too much. Hopefully you will release the design soon(TM).

For me, it only happens with a very weak internet connection. So, it propably depends what and what is the problem with. For me is problem with action tab : Hours of action aren't displayed chronologically how this section scrolls.

  • Adding camera-based AR. Portals scanning and It consumes a lot of phone battery anyway. That's why I rarely use portal scanning.

Adventure sync, weekly summaring. A very cool thing for those who don't have gadgets like a smartwatch and they rarely look at fitness apps.

New medal of Second Sunday. I can't wait 😀

But what with the spoofers in the game. Eliminate them at last. You don't want to play through they. Although it rarely happens in my city. But in some cities it is a drama with cheaters.

There is a strong interest in camera-based AR.

It is nothing less than the realization of the world that agents have been imagining since 2012.

But at the same time, I have my concerns.

First is the accuracy of location information.

Being able to see XM springing up from a fountain in the park would be fantastic.

But if the location information is inaccurate, that XM will spring up in the grass next to you or in a nearby toilet or water fountain.

At that point, no one will use the AR mode because they will be disappointed.

That's why I believe that the current representation with the Prime scanner is the only way to go.

And these will be further spoiled by low quality junk portals.

The Wayfarer team has recently added a large number of junk quality wayspots in India, with no regard for the restraints of the wise wayfinders.

So, this concern is getting deeper and deeper.

    We hope for improvement.

And as many other agents have said, please ban cheating players from the game.

    These discourage active agents.

Many agents would be happy to participate if Niantic would do some testing to ban cheaters.

I would like to see an anti-cheat test using the following

I've written about this in detail before in the Japanese forum, but I think it's worth trying the following things.

Not being able to start apps when SIM is not inserted, Bluetooth disconnection prohibited and judged by signal strength, communication volume and GPS logging, warnings based on differences between the main unit's GPS and surrounding base stations, and confirmation by taxis from Jarvis and ADA.

It depends on the long term plan for in camera AR.

There are several options that could make Ingress more engaging with in camera AR.

Data wise, if you have access to good 4G signal, then it is something that will load on the fly. See some of the Lightship demos as an example. They are light on data downloads due to how Lightship works.

That's the thing though - we have quite a bit of important play - where even roads take minute or so to load the signal is so poor.

To the point that some of us have "low signal" phones. Usually an old handset, with NOTHING on it other than Ingress to avoid stuff like receiving a Telegram GIF or something whilst conducting an op. We pre-open the game prior to entering low signal so that inventory is loaded etc, because that chews data, put all unrequired keys in caps and so on.

To the point where enemy agents would spam message us if they notice where we are going to swamp data connection.

Besides, the mesh scanning is only like 3 meters from the phone, making it useless unless you are almost on top of the portal. The added time from 5 seconds is also just scanning the ground, since most poi’s are scanned in a few seconds or less even.

I did some scanning, but it is too buggy, causes crashing of the client and breaks immersion from normal gameplay.

  • GreenVamGreenVam ✭✭✭✭✭

By the way, I still don’t understand why scanning portals if it’s enough to take altimeter readings or data from some kind of cartographic navigation program to build a three-dimensional map? And yet, where is the confidence that instead of millions of playgrounds, stupid schoolchildren do not scan any indecency?
