Come on, the game has been lagging for more than a year. Saying “we’re investigating” makes them incompetent; if after a year and months of reports from agents, there is no root cause identified, hire better developers. Seriously, how can you justify this in meetings, “what’s the status of the latency”, “yeah we still don’t know. But we made a fitrep!” :/
by now the cause should be identified and fixes should be implemented. Be like Deadpool on this, maximum effort. Nothing should take priority over this, especially because it has been a YEAR!
if you handle this like the blank map on startup (claim a speculative fix and never talk about it ever again - yes, this also still is an issue) people will leave and don’t come back.
Blank map on startup as in when the assets don't load? ie no fields, no links, sometimes no portals even showing? That's been occurring more frequently (to me at least) lately. Trying to do a drone move/hack you have to wait for assets to load most of the time. Same issue on WI-FI as on mobile data. I figured it was tied to the latency issue. Most of the time it does require closing and re-launching the app. Wish we just had one of those handy dandy force sync buttons.
Yup. In the beginning Prime startup was slow AF. They made improvements to this, but after a few iterations, the issue of the map not (fully) loading began. So now on startup, most of the times the map is empty (or partly loaded).
Then there was a patch with a “tentative/speculative fix”, but it never worked and we never heard about it again. This was around two years ago.
which is also the reason why I have no faith in this being resolve within the next few months. And it’s frustrating. Throw in the complete lack of updates or communication regarding these issues, and it’s just plain sad.
You're proving the point I was trying to make: You're unhappy with what Niantic says. The only thing that matters to you is that Niantic actually fixes the issue.
And that's perfectly reasonable, but it also means that as far as @NianticThia goes, no good deed goes unpunished. There'd be just as many complaints if she hadn't said anything at all on the matter. I'll take a simple nod to the issue over complete silence. 🤷♂️
the biggest problem is, even after countless of promises and apologies, there is literally NO communication regarding issues. Topics here are useless, if you post a bug report they will ask you to do it in the support section; only to have it automatically dismissed and you’re back to the forums.
If they would update us, it would go a long way. Now it’s just players posting their “dear diary” posts and are lucky if a nia employee actually logs into the forums for a reply. Seriously, that is some shameful stuff. Especially with global issues like this, it’s important to keep everyone updated on progress. Basically the opposite of what niantic is doing.
So no, I’m not mad about what niantic is saying, I’m mad about what they are not saying. You can’t ignore the reports and issues for 6 months, have players post reports for 3 months, then have complete silence for another 3 months, only to show a roadmap that completely lacks the issue and a post stating “oh yeah, I know you’re going to be mad about the latency, but we’re still ‘looking into’ that, so yeah.”
We just got an update in the style of 1. What exactly are you expecting? Even the likes of Google and Slack go, "Working on it… Still working on it… Still working on it… Maybe identified a cause… Still working it… Maybe have a fix… Fixed… Summary of Issue." Where Niantic differs is in the speed with which they roll out fixes.
Game producers, or community manager - please answer me. Have you finally decided to **** the game? How many times have you been asked to listen to the opinion of the community?
Let's take it in order:
Adding camera-based AR to Ingress. Ingress is an Augmented Reality (AR) game, but until adding Lightship Real-Time Meshing, the kinds of ways we approached augmenting reality were through layering game and story on top of the real world. We’re now working to bring camera-based AR into Ingress in ways that build on top of all of the Community Portal Scans that Agents have done to make Ingress more fun.
Even the content that is already in the game does not work good, constant lags and bugs. Recharging the portal is sometimes unrealistic. Animations of shields and other actions very often freeze, and do not allow you to play calmly. And at the same time, do you want to add new content that will eat even more battery due to the constant turning on of the camera?
By the way, would you like to fix the translations in different languages of our favorite game?
2. Growing the global community through events and also keeping more new recruits in the game. We will continue to offer Global Challenges, distributed live events using the Battle Beacon and other game mechanics, and Cross-Faction events like First Saturday and Second Sunday, and we hope you enjoy and wish you would agree that it is fun to stay. We are also improving the New Agent Training to help new Agents better get up to speed and continue with the game.
Do you want even more events where agents need to buy in-game items? Instead of making items that we would like to buy, you make a copy of items from pokemon go, and build new events around it???
Thank you, this is another step towards reducing the in-game community.
Oh yes, you were asked repeatedly to justify the appearance of items in the game at least with plot inserts, why was this not the case for combat beacons?
3.Continuing to work towards financial sustainability. The C.O.R.E. subscription has greatly helped introduce a new way to support Ingress. Optional cosmetic Medals offer a way to personalize the Agent Profile and doesn’t give an unfair advantage over others. Additionally, there’s a series of work planned to make our infrastructure more cost effective. We are committed to continue Ingress to Year 10 and beyond.
And yet you can't make the medcapsule that you've been asked for for how long? Huh? When will you finally listen to the community and do what customers need, instead of doing the next innovations that most agents do not need?
To that end, in Q1, we are working on:
Adventure Sync: Weekly Summaries
Do agents need a primitive fitness tracker in the game, especially considering that most of us already have separate programs for monitoring physical activity using fitness bracelets and smart watches ??? You asked us if we need this primitive functionality, which does not fit in with the plot and style of the game?
Second Sunday
And here it is not necessary to dissemble. You just made a medal and the opportunity to receive it, and the second Saturday, as always, is organized by the agents themselves. Agents also attract new players to the game (you do not spend money on ingress advertising), explain the plot to agents (which is not inside the gameplay), and do a lot of other organizational work instead of you.
Portal Scan Meter
Like a fish needs a bicycle? Will this make it more interesting for an ordinary agent to play?
And sorry, you can’t make a well-readable flat map without glitches, where do you do something in 3D? And who will love this 3d in places where there is a weak connection to the Internet?
Updates to Support Live Ops/Events
Live events are good, but again, will there be global changes in the game that many of our players have been waiting for so long? Will the introduction of new mechanics around the globe. Will there be again the same battlefield that was at the very beginning of the game, where new game mechanics and items regularly appeared? I really doubt.
Support and Community Updates
We do not have support for the community, the Community Manager does not communicate with users on the forum. AMA doesn't either. Endru was a good community manager and he did his job, and now... Talking to the company and asking for something to fix it is like talking to God in prayer. only now it seems to me that God hears me and many other users of this game much more often. Even the forum moderator sometimes responds with monotonous copy-paste messages without bothering to read them, for which he was reprimanded by forum visitors.
And I even doubt that someone from Nia will respond to this message with something constructive and intelligible.
Though very disappointed about the lack of priority for cheating, latency issues.
Also disappointed that the main menu remains empty of space, it strongly hints at a bounty board, but there has been no mention if this feature is even going to happen.
The in camera AR is interesting, though, we have been promised this feature for a few years now, ever since wayspot scanning was introduced. I'm keen to see this implemented before end of Q2.
Still keeping the CORE Subscriptions going, plus some more. Just to support the continued development of the only game I really care about.
Extremly sad that fixing latency is not having a higher priority. (Heck most actions ingame have been lagging for over a year, at one time I made a big ball of blue (kamehameha) trying too deploy resonators.)
Dont see really how camera AR will keep interest from causal players seems its not what ingress is about.
Why not daily tasks or even monthly in cells? Something to battle together with team to reach objective... Not scanning features most think is tedious and boring.
Really think we should get those AMA back most would like that and we miss them.
For the love of all that is holy please make the new augmented AR experience opt in only. Players do not want a fancy graphical experience, they want to play the game quickly and efficiently without needing to upgrade their phone every year.
This time next year will we have people telling their communities to never do portal scans because it is faster and easier to play portals that don't have an annoying 3D overlayer getting in the way of seeing the resonators?
I understand that you may need a fancy enhanced UI to impress investors and advertisers, but please don't let the chrome get in the way of the gameplay. This game can't survive another wave of people quitting because they are frustrated that a new fancy UI gets in the way of gameplay.
However I am concerned regarding the AR feature. Can Niantic please confirm that AR data for a portal will only be downloaded to player device IF this feature is turned on?
Our state has a lot of reliance on many low/no signal portals. Having to download AR data for a portal could cripple play on these.
Please ensure scanner has a On/Off button for receiving AR data.
I'm also very unsure of the benefit of AR for Ingress given serious players certainly do not normally have time for pretty views of portals, simple and fast is what we want. Smash, deploy, link, move agent.
Se não banir os trapaceiros, será em vão. Alguns abusos atiram nível de perseguição pessoal. O Ingress é um jogo maravilhoso, mas infelizmente é também um celeiro de gente tóxica.
I am not particularly happy with the idea of having a new medal for SS when the current MD medal was just fine (despite what a few might say... "waaah its losing its value waaah"). Eitherway, I hope the tiers of the new medal are not going to be like the IFS medal. Just a note: if it takes more than a year for someone to get Onyx tier on a medal that can be credited just once a month, you are asking for a tad bit too much. Hopefully you will release the design soon(TM).
For me, it only happens with a very weak internet connection. So, it propably depends what and what is the problem with. For me is problem with action tab : Hours of action aren't displayed chronologically how this section scrolls.
Adding camera-based AR. Portals scanning and It consumes a lot of phone battery anyway. That's why I rarely use portal scanning.
Adventure sync, weekly summaring. A very cool thing for those who don't have gadgets like a smartwatch and they rarely look at fitness apps.
New medal of Second Sunday. I can't wait 😀
But what with the spoofers in the game. Eliminate them at last. You don't want to play through they. Although it rarely happens in my city. But in some cities it is a drama with cheaters.
It is nothing less than the realization of the world that agents have been imagining since 2012.
But at the same time, I have my concerns.
First is the accuracy of location information.
Being able to see XM springing up from a fountain in the park would be fantastic.
But if the location information is inaccurate, that XM will spring up in the grass next to you or in a nearby toilet or water fountain.
At that point, no one will use the AR mode because they will be disappointed.
That's why I believe that the current representation with the Prime scanner is the only way to go.
And these will be further spoiled by low quality junk portals.
The Wayfarer team has recently added a large number of junk quality wayspots in India, with no regard for the restraints of the wise wayfinders.
So, this concern is getting deeper and deeper.
We hope for improvement.
And as many other agents have said, please ban cheating players from the game.
These discourage active agents.
Many agents would be happy to participate if Niantic would do some testing to ban cheaters.
I would like to see an anti-cheat test using the following
I've written about this in detail before in the Japanese forum, but I think it's worth trying the following things.
Not being able to start apps when SIM is not inserted, Bluetooth disconnection prohibited and judged by signal strength, communication volume and GPS logging, warnings based on differences between the main unit's GPS and surrounding base stations, and confirmation by taxis from Jarvis and ADA.
It depends on the long term plan for in camera AR.
There are several options that could make Ingress more engaging with in camera AR.
Data wise, if you have access to good 4G signal, then it is something that will load on the fly. See some of the Lightship demos as an example. They are light on data downloads due to how Lightship works.
So you're still trying to get people to scan portals. But most people don't like it.
-Not everyone can have the latest phone to do the scan.
-Scan have a lot of MB, sending via mobile data is nonsense.
-And most importantly, people are quite uncomfortable running around the city and scanning the objects so that people do not look at what they are trying to do. Or wait an hour for the space around the portal to empty so that there are no people in the scan.
And what's the point? To make a 3D map? Why? The latency is already high, in the center where there are many portals, the current state of the game would not even manage to display the map.
Take care of the necessary things first
-Latency
-Latency
-Spoofing
-Large number of FAKE portals where no one handles the report.
That's the thing though - we have quite a bit of important play - where even roads take minute or so to load the signal is so poor.
To the point that some of us have "low signal" phones. Usually an old handset, with NOTHING on it other than Ingress to avoid stuff like receiving a Telegram GIF or something whilst conducting an op. We pre-open the game prior to entering low signal so that inventory is loaded etc, because that chews data, put all unrequired keys in caps and so on.
To the point where enemy agents would spam message us if they notice where we are going to swamp data connection.
This, ppl want a clean and fast gameplay, not running around poi irl and scan them its not very fun and most poi usually crowded with ppl so not really ideal pointing cameras really.. and it drains battery and your internet data for what, to build a 3d map ? how will this be any gameplay advantage for anyone? i agree fix the latency should be prio nr.1 long ago.....
Besides, the mesh scanning is only like 3 meters from the phone, making it useless unless you are almost on top of the portal. The added time from 5 seconds is also just scanning the ground, since most poi’s are scanned in a few seconds or less even.
I did some scanning, but it is too buggy, causes crashing of the client and breaks immersion from normal gameplay.
By the way, I still don’t understand why scanning portals if it’s enough to take altimeter readings or data from some kind of cartographic navigation program to build a three-dimensional map? And yet, where is the confidence that instead of millions of playgrounds, stupid schoolchildren do not scan any indecency?
