how does this happen?

Portal https://intel.ingress.com/?pll=34.0236,-80.947595

is owned by __JARVIS__ and has one L8 resonator owned by __JARVIS__.

it ALSO has SIX L8 resonators owned by CaptRalph.

If it was blue, then flipped green by a blue player, how could CaptRalph have SIX L8 resonators on it?

What am i missing?

You're missing the knowledge on how Jarvis Viruses/ADA Refractors work.

If a blue player flips a blue portal with a Jarvis Virus, everything will be owned by/deployed by __ JARVIS __. Vice versa for a green player flipping a green portal with an ADA Refactor. It's not uncommon for players to refer to both JARVIS and ADA items as as "flip cards".

If a green player flips a blue portal with 8 level 8 resonators on it, that green player will own all resonators. Same happens if a blue player flips a green portal.

That said, if someone deploys a VR Battle Beacon on it, the game tries to re-assign ownership to who owned it before the previous set of flips. When you throw flip cards in to that, you can get weird looking deploys. If the person flips it while it's owned by __ JARVIS/ADA __, they'll own all those resonators, then it will be flipped back to the other side when the current period ends.

I think you missed it. I understand how flip cards work, which is exactly why i'm puzzled.

if it was blue, and flipped green by a blue player, the portal should be owned by __JARVIS__ (which it is), and all resonators should be owned by __JARVIS__. CaptRalph (a green player) would then, at most, be able to add ONE L8 resonator. not SIX.

No, I posted before I was done with my thought because I became distracted by something else :)

Another idea: Try messaging CaptRalph on Niantic Social and asking them how they did it?

TLDR: you think it is an artifact of how VR battle beacons reassign ownership during portal flips.

i'd be curious to try to puzzle out the exact sequence of events that led to this configuration.

It's the only thing it could be. Message CaptRalph and ask them.

Possible scenario that I'm thinking of is: ENL with six 8s on it originally flipped a blue portal with a jarvis. The other player on there upgraded it sometime after that to make seven 8s on the portal. Then perhaps, someone deployed a VRBB on it and while its alignment was blue, another blue agent upgraded the last reso to make it L8. When the portal flipped back to its original color of green, it couldn't display a blue agent's name on a green resonator so it shows up as __JARVIS__?

I'm not going to post screenshots with agent names on them but if you look at intel on 1/23 from 16:36-16:51 EST, you can see a VRBB deployed by the ENL agent at 16:36. At 16:46, there is both a RES and ENL agent at the portal. The ENL agent destroys a resonator, the RES agent deploys a resonator. Battle over at 16:51, portal returns to green alignment.

The VR battle beacon (maybe the rare beacon too), could've been a L7 portal with 7 L8s and 1L7, if the player initiating the battle doesn't have competition throughout the whole battle then the owner will be Jarvis but the reso owners will be of the player who initiated battle.

Edit: it was an E7 portal to start with.

Rare doesn't flip, but as per first comment, weird things happen with vr battle beacons,

@Engrish I'm not sure what scenario would result with a single Jarvis resonator however... perhaps a single upgraded reso, by opposition, after a player initiated flip, during a battle beacon.....
