I chose the ENL as a nod to the following thinkers who influenced the Age of Enlightenment: Rene Descartes, Galileo Galilei, John Locke, and Sir Isaac Newton.
When I started playing I could see that the area close to home was green so I went with blue so I would have things to smash. Though as it turns out there are a lot more blue around here than green 😂
I've chosen ENL because I love green (I'm biologist and scientist in real life, although I'm shifting to teaching nowadays) and also I like the ideology behind (share XM with everyone, with no boundaries and restrictions, same as open science, free knowledge exchange).
I read Resistance, resistance was fighting n**is during WWII and I didn't want to be a n**i (exagerated but still a bit true). And my mind interpretated the presentation of both factions as "ENL want to pair up with some weird alien matter to perform eugenism, RES don't trust said matter and want to contain it", one sounded progressist but elitist and careless while the other sounded consertavite but fair for all and careful. I chose the latter (I know this isn't really what the lore is about, only what the old me who only wanted to give Ingress a try understood).
Also I'm red in PoGo and hated the blues there, but a good friend said to me "it's funny because if you were to play Ingress I bet you'd choose blue, matches you better", maybe they influenced me.
Even though blue is my favorite colour and I love how the game looks when u are RES, I chose ENL because of the faction values I read when I started. And I believe I made a good choice cause after I started playing I left it there because PoGO came out, but like 5 months ago I came back to play and realized that my city is controlled mostly by RES cheaters, and I thank my younger self for picking green cause now I wouldn't be able to play because these cheaters have all taken, so there would be nothing for me to do. If i had chosen blue, i'd be in the tainted faction 😋
@XK150 That is a dark side of real history. I understand your reasoning, which is valid, and I empathize with you if you are of indigenous heritage. There are no right or wrong answers, I started this thread to understand the rationale behind the player’s choice in choosing factions. In a community building sense, it’s great knowing the stories and understanding other players involved; it’s how real and genuine friendship starts and grow.
For myself, I choose ENL in line with rationales of my fellow faction members that made it from a scientific perspective of always embracing change and discovery which has improved our lives for the better.
I got into Ingress from a game called QONQR (which is apparently still around). QONQR has two factions that are pretty much identical to the ones we see in Ingress, plus a third called the Faceless which were a bunch of edgy lone wolf hackers. Naturally, everyone (including me) wanted to be an edgy lone-wolf hacker, and the game became pretty quickly dominated by the Faceless. I almost immediately found out that it was almost impossible to play with no enemy teams around.
When I started Ingress, I took the opposite approach and tried to guess which faction had fewer players to try to ensure more opportunity for AP. I chose the Ingress faction that best aligned with the smallest QONQR faction, and ran with it. Thankfully Ingress (usually) doesn't have as dramatic of a faction dominance issue, so things turned out just fine.
There is a wonderful example of how a person whose psyche worked as an agent of resistance suddenly became enlightened after meeting with an exogenous being. I advise everyone to watch this Soviet cartoon with great music and a tense plot.
This piece of art best explains why enlightenment wants the shapers to come.
A little about myself, I am fond of ufology, and I am interested in everything mysterious and inexplicable. It is for this reason that I want to introduce exogenous creatures into the game. But not as regular Pokémon sitting under every ****, but as great and powerful educators of mankind.

I had several friends who were blue and none that were green. Easy decision.
I preferred the shade of green they chose more than the shade of blue.

I chose blue because green reminds me of swamp and moss. Yuck.

My sorting hat is a musketeer period hat is panne velvet, heavily plumed in green so there was just no saying no that.

My son suggested we give ingress a go and told me to pick blue.
He gave up a couple of months later.
That’s clever reading the presentation before choosing factions. What exactly influence your decision? How did you process it?

I'm Resistance because I hate when history rhymes.

Take care and have fun with the game
❤️🤗
i always prefered green, way before ingress.
and then i learned about lore and still better to evolve that wanting nothing to change ever
Really our area just needed more green players.
Wanted to be on a Green team on Pokémon GO, it didn’t have one.
Ingress did have one, and my area looked very blue when I started the game.

Honestly I have always been a AI kind of guy. ADA kind of helped my decision.
