Pretty much adding to what will have been said already, but there is literally no benefit to be standing around for 5 minutes waiting to hack, 90 seconds is fine and for people like me who are extremely impatient, the heat sinks make it even faster.
Even ignoring just the qol that is, when it's raining, snowing, icy, the sun is dangerously hot, you're being bitten alive by wee bugs cause of where the pits portal is, if your in a bad signal area and just manage to get a short burst of signal, all of these are made better by not having to hang around for ages
At the end of the day, there is 0 benefit for upping the cooldown time, other than slowing the game down
I understand you like to post comments in almost every thread for likes, but you really need to think more before saying things like these. You already have a challenge you can take on. You just have to press that recurse button. Standing around 5 or 10 minutes waiting to hack a damn key or 4 doesn’t add a challenge. It makes things unnecessarily slow, and boring.
I use heatsinks (common, rare, and VR) on top of the 90s cooldown to speed things up even more. A 90s cooldown does not make heatsinks useless. In fact, having heatsinks speed things up more than the 90s cooldown does when you are out fan fielding.
The games previous slower pace helped build communities. People would have to get together to build 8s and farm keys. That kind of gameplay seems to be lacking now with how quickly you can burn a portal out and move on to the next one. I agree that right now, given the ongoing pandemic, it shouldn't be happening.
I'm glad people are enjoying it as it exists, and I'll keep playing myself, no matter which way the mechanics shift, but I'll miss those old days at the same time.
The 90 second cool down is great, it speeds the game up overall. Instead of constantly waiting to hack again for keys or resonators, I can actually play.
I tend to be a micro fielder, and I still use heat sinks constantly when I do field. Even with the 90 second cooldown.
If they revert back to 5 minutes between hack, I'd play less. Though with the current lag issues, I already play less, so I guess if I will end up playing even less, it will be time to drop my CORE sub, since there will be no point in keeping 500 extra slots open for gear.
why do u asume things? what likes? i post my opinion which i have right this is a discussion afterall dont see where u are going with this. i still stand behind that game is too easy today with the current perks.
Well, it’s not going to get harder by making people wait more, that’s for sure.
why is this game supposed to be hard? Why would it be easy? There’s a steep learning curve, but otherwise ingress can be played in many different ways, there is no winning, right or wrong. In any case, the more time you invest in ingress, the more you’ll progress. It’s just silly to make it all take longer just by increasing the time between hacks.
Not assuming things I already know. Anyway, you should also realize that waiting for 90s to hack a portal versus 5 minutes has nothing to do with things being easy. It has everything to do with the pace of the game. You want to attract new players to the game? Let them enjoy with things being fast paced. Don't drag things out so damn long that they lose interest before they can even get to learn the game. Also, just fyi, the game was always easy once you got past that initial learning curve.
More challenge would be dynamic decay or not 8 output link whatever level the portal is but like glyph same number of outlink as glyph point (1 for l1 8 for l6-7 15 for l8 portal)
Something like this would be too drastic. Why is the game considered “too easy”? The increasing amount of portals decreases the difficulty more than anything.
New players don’t know any better, what would you do if something like this halted your gameplay all of a sudden?
I really like the gameplay as it is, if they would fix the damn latency issues already. Increasing the time between hacks is nothing but off putting.
Maybe they want to increase the time between hacks because it actually takes longer to do things, in-game. Just actually nerf all functions so the game is playable again…
Most people in favour of 5-minutes-cooldown seem to argue that it makes the game too easy. Actually most changes in Ingress made the game "more easy", more playable, more enjoyable.
Starting with capsules (no more picking up items one by one!), glyphing (tap-hack every five minutes for stealth farming, yeah wasn't that fun!), or glyphing with "more keys" command. Speaking of glyphing: the "BACK" button made translator really super easy, it should be removed! I could go on much longer. Most of these changes were disputed/disliked by some, but overall they established a balance that most players could enjoy (or at least adapt to).
And the 90s cooldown did improved the balance: There has always been the AP/Time imbalance between building (microfielding) and takedown. A player spends hours in a cluster of portals, building up and linking all the portals - and another player takes it down in a few minutes and using an apex he even gains the same amount of AP as the building player. It's not all about AP, sure, but with the lower cooldown the time spent building vs the time spent destroying is by far more balanced.
As a microfielder I still use a lot of CHS/RHS and I still take portal scans while waiting for the shorter cooldown. I guess if it were back to 5 minutes I'd move on to the next portal, skipping the scans while making small 5 minute circles. Or I'll stop building at all and reduce my gameplay to captures while commuting...
Could not agree more. Of course things got 'easier' over the years, QoL improvements are great. We didn't have key lockers, powercubes, glyph hacking, etc. I really hope they don't mess with the cooldowns, it will be yet another reason to do something else over Ingress.
It's called more running around. In portal dense environments, it's still insane. In portal deserts something has to be done. That's where five minutes becomes as annoying as waiting for the bus when it's -10C out.
"The game is too easy!" while not providing any solid reasons
The board has not changed with planning triangles. You can still max field. Making blockers is still based on how the opposing team operates. 8 resos, link link link, pew pew pew, field field field. You still use IITC regardless of the intel improving a lot in the past year - you can finally boot up intel on your mobile device and not expect lag from it loading. It amazes me that people don't understand quality of life (QoL) improvements as not a way of making the game "easier" but more productive overall. The idea of moving and venturing to every portal (and more) is more streamlined. That does not mean it's easier especially if repetitive actions shouldn't be bogging me down.
I am still trying to understand when the challenge seems more like trying to force interest out from anyone playing the game. I am just trying to maintain the overall strategy will always be present.
The only argument I can see for returning to 5min cool down time is that the effort you put in and the time you invest into the game will become a bigger differentiator between hardcore dedicated players - and the more easy going players. But this may just be the view from the "hardcore player community". It is certainly unlikely that an increase in cooldown back to 5min will do anything to keep casual players in the game or recruit new ones.
Especially in the modern times when all humanity expects that everything has to be available all the time at the click of a button - otherwise the world will come to a **** halt. We are all creatures of habit at the end.
I quite like the 90sec cooldown. It certainly makes micro-fielding alone easier. In the olden days I had to drag out the missus much more often to help with keys. Nowadays you can easily farm 50keys within 30min alone for an easy spine field. Certainly helps the very few players who actually invest time and brain power to develop and built fields. Because despite the reduced cooldown for the last 2 years - the majority of players are still just after quick smash and grab AP with an APEX. I suppose it helps them for gathering xmp more easily, which is key to keep the lazy smashers in the game. So I think on balance the reduced cooldown provides much more benefits for the game than detriments.
Maybe the 5-minute cooldown is more favorable for agents who like to socialize and find a potential date. Yup, time to get moving and find a date for the New Year....lol. 😁😂🤣
Yeah right! Multi-tasking by hacking and asking someone out for a date. That's strategy and time management for you. So, how many persons were you able to ask for a date when you had the 5-minute cooldown back then? 😀😂🤣
Time to get some disagrees for me,too. I don't like how Ingress became too easy with itoen-,Aegis nerf and 90s cooldown. Okay, easy example, whats the point of common heatsink exist now, excepting instant hack and hacklimit reset? Well, lets take cooldown off at all and make just skirmish,in this pov.
My opinion - 90 seconds should go away when it will be safe enough to stay outdoor. But from another angle i can understand that lots of Agents now are from "new wave", and won't like "hardcore" OG Ingress. I'd even imagine how noisy it will be if someone remove 3+- keys with "More" glyph,as it was. So,from this side,5 minutes is not an option too.How about 2-2,5 minutes cooldown,to fit both sides?
Been playing since Day 1 back in 2013. The 5 min hacks can go. Niantic can simply breathe and it's a controversy within the userbase. **** "hardcore" mentality. The game can't stagnant on old methods.
I don't believe that the 2 to 2.5 minutes cooldown is still not a good option because it won't be feasible for situations wherein one is farming keys for fielding and you have a deadline to meet. Not everyone is fortunate to have other teammates who can help you make a BAF or a mini BAF. The 2 to 2.5-minute cooldown is still bartering time to socialize in an uncertain time. Btw, are you trying for the speed dating time with this proposal of yours? 😀😂🤣

fast paced also makes the game too easy, nothing is realy a challenge anymore...
What is the added difficulty if all you do is stand around waiting?
Im ok if they increase to 3 mins cooldown, just not 5
Thatll make CHS a bit more balanced

That's why they gave us heat sink mods. It was part of the calculations in how to play the portal.

It's frequently a challenge to play with the lag. Deploying portals, or trying to link and field.
I guess if it gets reverted, we can wait for another hack while we wait for the lag?

This. I've been playing since 2014. I've seen no compelling reasons to go back to 5 mins. It would be detrimental to player retention, if anything.
What would be the point then for Rare and Very Rare Heatsinks?
