Digital Kits - Did Niantic not learn again?
So, a new chance to buy a swag kit arrived. With this, a unique drone badge and a unique Susanna Moyer badge. Did Niantic learn from the NL-1331 kits?
No, no they did not.
Can we please just have a digital kit option for the drone and Susanna medals? I do not want to pay scalpers.

It was up for quite awhile, dare I say a couple of hours. There was warning ahead of time to previous order takers and the link was shared in tons of places. If you didn't get this, I would say you didn't try hard enough.
I agree, i read some agents in telegram waking up in usa finding out all nl kits was quickly sold out. dont see why there cant be a digital bundle of the badges being sold in store, a little extra money to niantic afterall that they could use ? all nl kits has sold out very fast this time not surprised...
When I saw that they were having a pre-order period I thought they HAD learned...but no.
How hard is it to have a pre-order period, then base your production on how many orders were placed? That would absolutely **** the scalper market. What good does scarcity do except **** off people who can't place an order in the first hour (or whatever) after the sale goes live? And yeah, they'll have a digital version eventually...meanwhile, they've generated ill will amongst the player base instead of doing what they should be doing: generating revenue.
But...been playing this game long enough to know that "This is the way." 😖😤
Are you all really that surprised ? This is standard operating procedure. Make everyone angry first then try to do damage control maybe a year later.
Well, interestingly enough I just got an email about these kits being available.
Clicked the link, still sold out. Interesting move Niantic, lol.
I agree that doing a timed PO makes the most sense. Promote it for a day or two, then put the PO up for a pre-determined amount of time, limit sales and then that's it. I don't agree that everything sold online MUST also be sold in digital form. I made sure to stay up last night, have my credit card ready and secure my kit...
Yeah, apparently that's happening to a lot of people. It's not the most brilliant marketing strategy. 🥴
But they WILL make it available digitally else they'll be throwing away they one thing they need to thrive as a game (if not just survive): money. Glad you got yours...wish I could say the same. And yeah, I make enough money to give it to somebody else to get what I want...and I will...but it won't be to Niantic and if I'm being honest I would prefer they get it. But they sold all they kits they had up for sale, so I'm going to say they ultimately don't really care if they sell them to scalpers or the players who really want them. Because if they wanted the players to have them they wouldn't be scarce in the first place. They could probably have sold 5 to 10x the amount they sold...and then the scalpers would have no one to sell them to. C'est la vie...c'est la guerre.
If a digital kit for this becomes available, I would buy it. I really hope that like the NL-1331 kit became available digitally, hopefully this one will as well.
And if the sticking point on supply was really the Moyer card...really? Sell some kits without it...we're just here for the freakin drone.
It was up for 2.5 hours last night before they completely sold out. Limited to 10 per person. Many people were active buying them last night when they went on sale. You should know that Niantic is likely going to be limited amounts, so buy when they go on sale. Don't wait!
I got two. One for me and one for someone else who didn't think to buy last night (a local).
There is already one showing up on eBay for a mere $99...and folks wonder why they won't allow people to buy more than 10 at a time...
Back in stock???
From what I've heard, a large order got cancelled, so they're back in stock.
Niantic seems to not be interested in producing large quantities.
The cost of producing these is quite high, that it would be financially better to produce 1,000
In saying that, I got 2.
One for myself
One to give away at an IFS, probably in February
Checked again when I got home from work today, still nothing. Fun.
I think they should do a print on demand type system for this kind of product. Open up the preorders for a specified amount of time, than print based on how many were ordered, while also making some extras of course.
It would be a much better service to the players, and a chance to make some money on sales.
Sending out emails to people saying they were available to buy when they were already sold out was cruel.
Personally - didn't buy, dislike drones so not supporting em.
They learnt all they needed to know a long time ago. I just hope like last time they will back pedal (which they are good at doing these days) and either have a second offer. Or like last time offer just the character badge in game via the store.
Did I misunderstand something here:
How is it sold out without being released yet?
I think thats when it starts to ship out ? holidays are around the corner ,.,. but i could be wrong
Preorders opened on the 20th, with them being shipped (being deployed) on the 27th
Soon, TM, Many are just after the physical swag... :)
The kit also references a drone model that isn't officially released yet. They could be launching the kit and new drone simultaneously, and using the pre-order as a roundabout advertisement.
Absolutely this
One of these product launches should really be print to order pre-orders where they offer unlimited pre-orders and you wait for the items to print and after 1-2 months they get shipped after they are made. The current sales amounts are never enough for the global demand.
I don't have a horse in this race but being up for "a couple of hours" is an extremely limited availability. Not everyone has the ability to drop everything in their life to buy swag.
Please, master, teach me the mastery of living the 30 min sleep life. Allow me to learn the secrets of the shark mindset.
The badge will be in the store one day, like all of them. I wouldn't be at all surprised if many legacy badges pop up in the store. As for now it's just unlucky if you didn't get one.
They tried legacy badges, they just didn't sell, so stopped bothering, hopeful one day they will return, but I personally prefer codes, even emailed ones that can b shared
Niantic had an opportunity to sell a product at $25 that a lot of people wanted. But it seems they threw that opportunity in the toilet instead. But hey, there’s plenty of Faannyy packs and cooler bags available in weird colors, maybe that’s the priority.
