I'm surprised that the introduction of the new Rare Battle Beacon will happen during an event :O Are there any plans to make it a permanent addition before or after the event?
Will be passing on this badge. Ya almost got me with the hyperion look, but that text just ruins it.
Would be nice if y'all could figure out how to attach some tasks to these, similar to what's done in PoGo. Really missing out on an opportunity there in my opinion.
Glad to see something here, but honestly, outside of the bonus AP for unique portals, none of this will change how much I've been playing Ingress and lately, that ain't much...
It is not. Niantic is working on a new variant of the Battle Beacon, the "Rare" one. The one that we know and love is the "Very Rare". This is what happens when you deploy a Rare one:
- 10 minute countdown before the actual Battle Beacon challenge begins
I can answer that - nope, no fracker effect on the rare BB. [Edited per Ingress official post - I either misremembered from the test or this has been changed]
I tweeted my experience with them (including some pictures/videos) but since I messed up the threading I'll repeat the learnings here:
First experience with the new rare #BattleBeacon#Ingress2s -- I won! (An uncontested win is still a win, right?) Things I've learned (thread):
2/ Rare battle beacons start with a 10 minute countdown. This first measurement doesn't count as part of the battle.
3/ once the 10 minute timer is done then the battle begins. There are 3 measurements each lasting 3 minutes. They are worth increasing numbers of points (2,3,4).
4/ Unlike normal (very rare) battle beacons you purchase in the store, these beacons do not flip portal ownership. If the portal is unopposed, it will just stay owned by you continuously.
[5/6 Specific to the November test]
7/ Messages are visible in comms for the end of the battle beacon (victory, defeat, or tie), but there is currently no comm or Intel notification of the beginning of a battle.
8/ currently there is no indication of a city-wide score, which makes sense given the surprise nature of this event. I expect to see Niantic build on the features in the future, possibly at the announced battle beacon event in Japan next week.
9/ it was fun to go out there and see the new #battlebeacon first hand. I love these little curveballs Niantic throws at agents. Looking forward to see the feature evolve, with more notice and competition. /End
If you complete a quantum capsule between now and the beginning of this challenge, consider if you should wait for the challenge to start, before reloading the quantum. For example, if you load it now, and you're only likely to trek 3k before Monday -- you'll start the challenge with 5k on your capsule. But if you'd waited to load it, you'd have the challenge distance = 4k.
Also a good time to consider where to drop off your drone, so it can get lots of uniques with the 22-minute cooldown. OR, good time to make a couple L7 or L8 near each other -- for your drone to hop between, and farm.

That text looks atrocious. It literally destroys the visual of the badge. Please don't include that horrible 2022 text in game
Why not 2022 AP for Never visited portals?

Assuming this is referring to the battle beacon we already know and love, will this be available to and usable by agents with <40M AP?

- only 3 checkpoints
- doesn't flip portal between checkpoints
- no fireworks at the end of the challenge
As usual, here's an infographic for those who like things visually.
Thanks!
@InvestigateXM does rare BB got fracker effect?

I'm not sure, I'm just going by what Brian said on Twitter and what could be seen via Intel ^^'

For Quantum, substitute "Kinetic". But good advice.
There's a Pikmin community day tomorrow that will definitely generate a new kcap for me
Thanks - my bad. 😋
Hopefully, welcome 2021 medal badge will be available also in store. :)
