Intel Map updates/enhancements

Yes, I consider the Intel Map as a critical aspect of the App, despite it not being accessed there.

The Intel Map has been neglected and is woefully outmoded. It;s still laden with dead links to defunct G+ communities and Ingress Reports aren't really Lore as much as Events anymore. The graphics are as old as the NIA itself and is slow to parse and load.

Please... Please update the Intel Map. Give it some new flavor and tools to make it useful for things like Operations Coordination and planning. Make it load faster and offer some additional layers to enhance readability.

Most likely something that will update after redacted is offline

It's probably using the old back end needed to support Redacted and would get a Prime makeover after September.

    Just implement IITC!

  • It seems that the real issue is that people use the intel map for more than just intel. Mostly for planning out fields or planning areas to go but not strictly for intel. The constant map updates every time you move or change is what I think causes the most issues. I think if there was some kind of "pause" button to just keep the data static so you can "play" I think that would be more useful. I think a better option would be to consider creating a planning map that is more geared towards planning out new fields or portals to visit and hack. I would suggest that this map have the ability to turn the display of fields on and off as well turn off and on the "active" data. So you could have a blank map with a bunch of white dots to field or plan and then you can turn the current "intel" back on and see what you need to do to get that field up.

The intel map I would also have an option of some kind of additional notes for the nodes. Things like "closed in the winter" or "entrance on far side" Things to give people a little extra information about the area. Especially things like "No trespassing at night". I think it would also be cool to have some kind of log of all the people that have been and hacked a location. It can give you a history and sometimes it would be interesting to go.. oh hey... "x" was here 2 years ago.. Even historical background on some of these locations or extra links to community websites. We are highlighting all these community areas, churches, art in the world; would be nice to enhance the experience with more of that kind of data for "intel".

I feel that while it might be more work initially, having a planning map and intel map as independent maps (or some kind of filters on a single map?) it might make it easier for people to plan out things or just get information. I can even see a special app designed just to plan fields or even later adding it as part of the scanner itself.

    Just my thoughts.
