Commemorative badges for the Niantic games that have closed down
in General
We have Catan: World Explorers and Harry Potter: Wizards Unite both closing down shortly.
However, Ingress remains, which is great. I would like to remember the games we have lost though, and wondered if it’s possible to have a badge/medal on our Ingress profile if we have played those games with the same Niantic ID?
An optional thing, and maybe it doesn’t have to refer to the game directly if that’s an issue but something like a badge with a wand;
”Rewarded for investigating the magic of the world around you.”
And Catan could be a pair of dice;
”Rewarded for rolling the dice and gathering resources from the world.”
Just a thought that I wanted to share.

Medals and what they stand for are pretty vague at times, especially since you can just buy some occasionally, but if you start introducing medals from outside the Ingress universe then you kind of open de floodgates to all sort of random stuff to award a medal for.
If you insist on having something like that in your agent profile I'd just create, or have somebody create, a banner.
So, if Electronic Arts Star Wars games closed, I should get a light sabre in FIFA Soccer game? Sorry no.
This is just a watered-down version of a foolish idea I smacked down on Reddit last week. Are you the same poster, or is the Collective Unconscious wasting my time by helping multiple people reinvent the same bad idea? (If it's the latter, why does the Collective Unconscious mostly seem to reinvent bad ideas? It's probably the Shapers' fault.)
Anyway, I'll start by writing what I wrote on Reddit:
"Niantic won't do any of that, because Warner Brothers would have to give permission for Harry Potter content to appear in the other games, and WB has zero incentive to do that after HPWU stops making them money."
And I'll add:
An after-the-fact medal for Catan is a horrible "not how Ingress works" idea. There should never be a medal announced after the possibility to earn it has already ended.
Honestly, the whole notion of over-participation trophies seems unhealthy. You need to learn to let go. Playing every Niantic game doesn't mean you're special, it means you're obsessive.
Not the same poster, no. Just a thought I had, and wanted to share. Totally get your view on it.
No thanks
Best left as something to display on niantic profiles IMO, those already display player levels for all niantic games that person has played. They can just leave the info there for WU without it being out of place.
Excuse me lads, but there are precedents of badges like OP suggests already existing in Ingress profiles. Also Niantic took care to spam Ingress players with other Niantic games and I find no reason at all to deny such request?
If players were shared across those games, is not a rare thing to see. "Come try my new thing and get exclusive stuff" is a very usual cross-marketing. But I agree it should be optional.
Now, this makes more sense to me.
Yo forgot Niantic's crossplatform spam, but ok. Obsessed is not a word I'd use to describe such friendly request.
I guess some people don't remember the Stella Vyctory badge. 😂
I remember Stella, and she's the exception that proves another point: If WB and Catan GmbH were comfortable with their intellectual property becoming a permanent part of Ingress, it would have happened while they were trying to grow their games, not after they've cancelled them.
(Honestly, though, we shouldn't direct too much attention toward Stella, because we don't know if Niantic really negotiated a license in perpetuity, or if the IP owner just isn't paying attention to its dormant IP.)
Apologies to bump an old thread but it seems they finally did it.
NBA All-World, one of Niantic’s titles, is due to close today at 7pm UK time.
Interestingly, you can view a “Legacy Badge” for the game if you played it on your Niantic Profile which you can see by tapping the Niantic balloon in your profile from any title or via the website - https://my.nianticlabs.com/home
