Add copyright description area of mission medal image when submitting missions

haripoharipo ✭✭✭

There are plenty of missions with nice mission medal images, which encourage us to explore more.

Mission Acceptance Criteria of Ingress says “an image or any text that isn't yours or that you don't have rights to use or that consists of a logo” would be rejection reason of mission submission.

But Ingress Mission Authoring Tool doesn't have areas which we can explain the imeges are eligible. The criteria above also says that texts or images in missions must not include real name, Agent codenames, URLs etc.

That leads some mission submissions with eligible picture to be rejected inappropriately.

There are some ways to meet criteria:

  1. The image is created by mission author.
  2. Another person has its copyright, and mission author has permission by copyright holder.
  3. Another person has its copyright, and mission author uses it under the rules or guidelines by copyright holder (including CC licences.)
  4. The image is public domain.

Making copyright description area of mission medal image enable us to clarify the image meets the criteria. That results in not only appropriate reviewing process of missions but also Niantic’s compliance efforts.

Please consider my suggestion @NianticBrian @NianticThia

Any Comments from fellow Agents are also welcome.

Another valid possibility: Image came from a portal key. Niantic already owns it.

You might need to crop the portal picture, or pop the color, or some kind of editing so it'll look good on a mission - but it still belongs to Niantic.

Interesting idea. Decorating with frames, filters & stamps would be nice to make mission medal images.

    Thank you.

  • Good idea!

From the mission tool, you can open the portal, right click, and download. But if you nominated it yourself, you might want to do the same process from your nominations page.
