The change to force always full screen instead of showing the notification bar means that there is now an ugly hole in the view.
Niantic Chat needs to always show the notification bar, to help know what messages from other platforms are coming in, as well as a spacer to hide the ugly hole in the display.
As well as other visual artefacts showing as missing parts of the UX.

You may be wondering why I used my old (backup) mobile to take these photos.
Thus is because, even though the display has no pixels around the camera, the entire screen is still rendered as though there are pixels there.
Also, those visual artefacts in the top bar, are the actual notification bar icons, they just happen to be white.
Ie that whole bar needs to move down by the same proportion as the notification bar
