Strange Email Problems

I was using my ingress account with Facebook email. After a while, I talked to a Niantic support person and changed it to another email address I use for games.

However, this was never really resolved and I got random emails from ingress to my old email at random intervals. Some of them go to my new email and some of them go to my old email. I never understood what is the problem nor did a Niantic support person helped me solve it. All they told me is to log on and off again and stuff like that.

I was not sure where to post this (Wayfarer or Ingress) so I ended up posting to both.

1st problem: The subject seems to be a reply to something but I did not initiate a conversation or opened a ticket. The username at "to:" is correct but the email is wrong. That's the old email used. Also, note that this email is coming from Niantic Support. Not Ingress, not Wayfarer.

You can see below the rest of the email.

2nd problem: Assuming this email was intended for me, and it was for my correct email that is associated with my Ingress account (this email does not have any associated Niantic account) it raises a few questions.

  • Why is this email threatening to ban both my Ingress and Wayfarer accounts? I heard of people getting banned from Wayfarer, but that never had any effect on their actual game accounts.
  • My last nomination was accepted about a month ago. Around the same time, I submitted a couple of portals and they are still in voting. So what could have triggered this? It seems pretty weird timing to me since there has been a month since I interacted with anything Wayfarer-related.
  • I'm pretty sure my nominated portals are pretty fine and do not warrant a warning or ban in any way. I am a fairly experienced reviewer with 3,5k reviews and a "Great" rating. I doubt that someone, who is a great reviewer, does not understand when their own nominations are good or not.

First of all, I'd suggest either removing or redacting the first screenshot, as not only is your own screenshot visible, but also the "reply-to" mail, which, when replied to, automatically adds to the ticket that was opened. Everyone can do that, so at the very least, remove that ^^'

For the first Problem: It seems like someone reported one or multiple of your nominations, which Niantic deemed against their guidelines. You can see that the first message is at the bottom, which Niantic created to open the ticket. They then reply to that so you get the message, therefore the "RE:".

For the second Problem: I believe this mail is always send if there's something "wrong" with submitted nominations and therefore is explaining the "worst case" (note the 'can'). If you just submit stuff like gravestones, you'll only get a slap on the wrist. If you submit something obviously stupid, like your hand or feet together with some, uh, not so nice words, Niantic can ban both accounts.

One of your nomination could have been flagged during voting, which made Niantic take a closer look at them. As this happens indipendent from you, this could have happened at any time.

Why you got this mail I don't know, we don't see what your nominations are ^^'

  • Removed the 1st screenshot as suggested.

As for the first message at the bottom that they replied to, it's empty. The message ends there. So even if there was an initial mail, I am not able to see it.

Regarding my nominations. I can share all of them with you, no problem. The only thing I submitted which was somewhat "controversial", which might be the reason to spark some investigation or trigger a warning was a Medical Center located in my local university. This medical center is used for regular checkups and such, nothing too extreme like an emergency response unit, etc. So I thought since it does not obstruct emergency services, it might be a point of interest. It was rejected twice even though I submitted a photosphere where I clearly showed there was no ambulance or anything. That's the only thing I could think of. The rest were statues, monuments, parks, and university buildings. Even if some of them got rejected for peculiar reasons, I see no reason to issue such a warning.

I witnessed people admitting to copy-pasting nominations from nearby towns and filling their village with overly fake nominations which were reported over and over. Those people never got any warnings, the portals never got removed. Being witness to this kind of situation and then getting this kind of warning out of nowhere makes me feel offended at the very least.

    It was rejected twice

This is probably what triggered the mail. Niantic took a look at your account and saw that the nomination was already rejected two times, so they think "Huh, this agent keeps submitting stuff that is getting rejected, they must have not read the criteria" and sends off the warning. Not saying it's deserved, but that's likely the reason.

Hmm, yes this might be the case. I was not aware that trying to rebut the decision was a bannable offense. If the system was this unforgiving, it would at least stop the amount of "feet" and "hands" nominations I get to review all the time.
