What if NIA could let the local communities to use their own section in this forum. So NIA could over watch their discussions. So what ever they discuss and happen it will be under the supervision of NIA.
But restrictions on posting photos will make it difficult. My team loves memes, not all of them is interested in obtaining 50 points here.
I understand advenntages and disadventages of restrictions to publish links and photos, but it will discourage people from joining groups in this Community.
The points don't have to do with ingress. Theyre just a standard number for calculating valuable posters. You get them by receiving Insightful and Like votes.
As for the topic, I love the idea of communities getting to apply for a sub-topic spot. I can predict there will be arguments about who can post announcements there. But, if an official one can be established per region, this will be amazing for recruitment and visitors reaching out!
I've long considered joining "slack" and "telegram" communities based on this game, but I personally consider these something that should be part of the game. If these "points" have nothing to do with Ingress and are "valuable" then they are absolutely worthless to people who actually PLAY Ingress. Please excuse me while I post five thousand pictures of my photoshopped gluteus maximus on Instagram to demonstrate how these "values" are false. I have some points to get.
But I support your point that Ingress could help new players more to find their way to existing communities. Speaking of feature party I still would like to see the option to link a social media profile to my player account. This was one of the great features we had in old G+/Hangouts days. You could easily contact another local agent without spamming the comm.
I don't see the necessity for local community forums on this Niantic platform. A lot of people prefer WhatsApp, Telegram, Slack or other platforms over this mobile-unfriendly vanilla forum.
The recruitement section of this forum is a good starting point for new agents, but maybe a way of a map based search for communities would be a good idea. Maybe a former Google-Maps spinoff-company could take care of this 😉

A nice thought, not everyone likes to use messenger/social chats.

Wait. What are these "points" you are referring to?
@Cybertherion this points. Only when you have second level here (50 points), you can share photos and links.
Without wishing to high-jack the thread, what do these "points" represent and what do they have to do with Ingress?
Back on topic, some localised forum sections would be nice.

I understand your point, but if you like memes so much, you should consider going for them on other community platforms.
My favourite sources are the telegram channel Prime Meme and the community section of the Ingress page at Facebook.

It's actually 20 points (but still a counter-productive system in my view).
@starwort look at the date of my comment, back then it was 50 points:)
Oops, didn't realise this thread had been raised from the dead!
