I’m sure the change in email was just someone’s clever cost cutting exercise. As Pokémon GO emails don’t tell you if something is too close, eliminating the Ingress email for that and making it similar language to Pokémon GO probably somehow saves X amount of dollars and FTE on updating that template and maintaining checks on proximity.
I believe it was said in one of the threads on one of the boards that the timing of the email changed with the Lightship migration: the "Good Work, Agent!" mails were sent out from the Ingress side, after the proximity check had taken place. The new emails are being sent from the Lightship side prior to that same proximity check. It would probably be most useful to update this email to be sent only after spacing and proximity checks are done for each game, so that it could confirm exactly what games would show the candidate...but for now it just sends the generic template to all.
3) How are we doing on removing Portals that were added that may be problematic? Is there a preferred way we want Agents to submit this information if they want to help?
If you mean Foursquare import, there is no word "may be". It IS a problematic huge bag of junk, almost all of these imports are breaking your own rules. Thousands portals in every province, many with inaccessible or dangerous location, some with obscene language in titles, and so on, so forth.
We do not care for pokestops, it's OK to keep these locations in database for other games, but they must be removed from Ingress automatically and completely. Your move badly hit many peoples who tried to submit interesting locations, and spent time working in Wayfarer to keep submitted candidates within rules. In a fraction of second, you just made all their efforts useless.
As I said earlier, even if your programmers do not track origin of waypoints to quickly find out bad sheeps from Foursquare, it's possible to remove portals which were imported recently and do not have a picture. Even if they do not track date of the imports, just remove all portals without pictures - it'll be significantly less damage to portal network than you already did.
A quick-ish update. TLDR: rules for what gets added into Ingress have not changed; bug filed and investigating why Wayspots are not going live; no real update on the other stuff but still working on it.
1) Have the rules for what gets added into Ingress as a Portal changed? (AFAIK, no, but I want to double check.)
No, the rules have not changed.
2) If the rules haven't changed, what is the cause for accepted Wayspots to not show up as a Portal in Ingress? Synching issue? Bug? We don't know yet? Is there a preferred way we want Agent to submit inquiries about this to look into it?
A bug has been filed and teams are investigating why Wayspots that are not too close to another live Portal are not going live. (If it's too close to an existing live Portal, it won't go live - same as before.) At this time, you do not need to submit inquiries about this if you do not want to because we have enough examples to investigate however if you DO want to, please submit a ticket. As soon as I have an update on the status of this investigation, I'll share.

This form can be used but it is only for the countries listed on it (Brazil, Mexico, Philippines, Poland, Russia, Thailand, Turkey). Other reports would go through the normal process via the Scanner. Again, you do NOT need to do anything, but for those that want to, this is how you can.

I am working with both the Wayfarer and Ingress teams on some additional clarifications and communications. Even though this post doesn't feel like a super substantial post (to me), I wanted you to know I'm still tracking and working on it, and hope to have more as soon as I can.
Side note: I've seen the comments about how reporting an invalid Portal never seems to work. (I, too, have rarely had an invalid Portal removed and feel your frustrations there...) I've added this to my list of things to get clarifications on but I'm trying to get the current situation sorted out a bit first.
Appreciate the update as well, though I’m curious why #2 seems so difficult for anyone to answer and requiring weeks to figure out. Very curious to see what the issue ends up being, but I don’t see how this could possibly be a bug with what’s being reported so far (noms going missing in wayfarer, etc).
I do hope that when all of this is resolved ( see I am now optimistic it will be resolved ) that we are given a full explanation. It’s important because it would give confidence about moving forward, and the action would demonstrate a true inclusivity of involving the communities - not only Ingress but wayfarer.
Long gone are the days when passengers would sit on a train stuck in the middle of nowhere with no idea what was happening, and getting frustrated due to a lack of information. You get regular updates. Clear information of the problem, why it might take time to resolve, what the solution is and likely timeframe. You can still feel a bit frustrated but you can work out the implications for your journey and your customer experience is so much better.
in Wayfarer and Niantic games I am more than a customer, I am part of a community so I don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect explanations.
This "bug" has been around for over a month and no one can give us a straight answer, what a joke... Y'all communicating via the postal system or what? Make a call, find out why these portals are being delayed/not imported and then share that with us.
I suppose I feel better about the lack of communication we get when it's clear y'all can't communicate internally either...
No, I started it and never finished the tutorial. Figured I wasted enough time between PoGo and Ingress. Now, just Ingress, though that is mostly limited to events anymore. Game is a little stale unfortunately (for me, personally, no offense to anyone still obsessed or in an area with good gameplay)
We’re that partner that thought they had a really good date, hoping for that text for a second date and unbeknownst to us, just getting straight ghosted. And this isn’t the first time Niantic has done this…
Comments
There is the known 20 meters rule : a new portal could not be closer than 20 meters to an existing portal.
Maybe other known rules (cell?), I don't know them.
And certainly a lot of hidden rules set by Niantic (and I find very frustrating that obscurity behavior by Niantic, not only for portals).

It would make sense. But doing it the way they are is likely cheaper. I’m sure it’s been someone’s big project at one point.
Thanks for this.
Your posts are appreciated.

There is nothing Agents need to do to help with this effort; the teams are actively working on this. I did ask about a form that I saw another Agent post (I can't find the post at the moment): https://docs.google.com/forms/u/0/d/e/1FAIpQLScMmz3lD30kz7vc3XkxaHyJFggxhfmsuPd2XGaCidOV-yUtzQ/viewform

Thank you @NianticThia this is some very helpful answers.
Thanks for the update and clarifications!
Thanks, and sorry for putting this on you, but are the one that's answering our questions
Thank you for an update at least we know it’s a bug.
Glad to hear that the rules haven't changed.
Hope the bug is fixed soon. Thanks Thia!
Thanks for the update. Hope we hear something further in the coming days and see portals appear.
Thank you for the update! It is much appreciated.

Hi @NianticThia and @NianticVK
Any news on this problem?
It’s an important issue and it was really helpful to have it clearly stated that it was some sort of bug.
However it would be good to know if the team are closing in on the issue or are they flummoxed.
Any expected timescale to resolve days, weeks , months, years.
Any insight would be helpful.

Niantic formerly used homing pigeons & owls. Now upgraded to Drones for sending messages. ✉️
Or they're waiting for Niantic Chat?
Perhaps that too. I’ve only seen that in Catan so far and it’s not live for me anyways.
This so much.
Do you play any of the Harry Potter Wizards Unite game? Let me tell you, things could be much worse for Ingress as far as bugs...
No, I started it and never finished the tutorial. Figured I wasted enough time between PoGo and Ingress. Now, just Ingress, though that is mostly limited to events anymore. I play Harry Potter: Wizards Unite. The amount of bugs in that game is a bit unreal now. I can understand why folks are boycotting the current event.
Yawn... Loving the communication.
We’re that partner that thought they had a really good date, hoping for that text for a second date and unbeknownst to us, just getting straight ghosted. And this isn’t the first time Niantic has done this…
I feel like we clicked on the wrong Teams meeting link and are sitting here wondering when the others are going to arrive.
Do you think they have noticed we are not there?
🤦🏼♂️🤦🏼♂️🤦🏼♂️
