Proper Beta Testing?

Hey all,

To start, I'd really like to thank Niantic for how they've handled prime. They're one by one fixing all of the community's complaints, even if they won't stop complaining or hating the app, and the app has become miles better than it was, and I really appreciate that. The bug tracking has a cleanly organized spreadsheet, we get thorough release notes, and the app is mostly usable now, which is fantastic (really the only breaking issue I know of is submissions lagging right now, otherwise it seems to have all the core game play elements down).

That being said, this is Niantic, and we know the company has had a history of having proper open and closed betas. Why did those go away? Niantic, your best, untapped resource for fixing your app is players who wouldn't mind installing something on the bleeding edge side and reporting those bugs before they hit everyone else. We exist! We'll find out how the app breaks so other players won't have to! Please consider properly setting up a beta testing program for prime :)

  • Personally I would have liked a longer Closed Beta. The best thing of having a newer version of a program or AP is all the cool new features that you get to have/use I feel with Prime it's the other way around 1.0 or redacted seem to have more tools, faster and more fun to use.

Some are arguing that we need to fix the bugs with Prime before Niantic can move forward and add cool new helpful features. My point is if Niantic kept Prime in CB these bugs would of been fixed faster and we would have a bug free scanner during this time tell Prime was ready for release.

I only use Redacted for profile sharing. I can not do without new features like capsule naming and the speed of deploying/linking of Prime anymore. (Last FS: "Wow, you have fast fingers, you get all the links" "No, I'm using Prime.")

Prime is different, use it like Redacted and it is frustrating, use it like Prime and it's fine (and sure, it still has it's issues. Freezes (so far 2.25 did not freeze, but limited playing time), the attack bonus overlaps the most important area on the screen while attacking, ...)

As far as betas go, I think it was good to make it open, It needed to be exposed to the many different ways people play and try to accomplish certain tasks. Just look at the release notes for 2.25... For 80% of the fixes I wasn't aware those where bugs in 2.24.

Actually, it would be nice if everyone could play the first 'closed beta' for a bit, just for fun, then the first open Beta and then the current version. There has been so much progress.
