2nd Sunday / Mission Days question

So according to the fevgames post about 2nd Sunday in August, I need to do six missions on August 8th.

In addition, these must be "Official Mission Day Missions" in order to count.

Not bitching here but not everyone has Official Mission Day Missions in their backyard.

I have 300+ missions I can do locally but I really do not want to travel with Covid 19 making a comeback here.

Incheon, Daejeon and Busan are places I can go but Incheon is off limits for me, and travel is generally discouraged at the moment.

Can Niantic rethink this a little bit?

Mission Day events were always thought for people to move to the places hosting them.

I understand this format is still under testing but before they went away they were even harder to attend.

So, no: no rethinking is coming on this the way I see it. First SSMD was announced with no time and that should be the reason why they allowed all missions to count.

They were nice to let us do first time any missons for the MD badge, now in august u will need to do official missiondays sadly.

  • I'm not about to travel 50+ miles to Daejeon or 150 miles to Busan. Incheon and Seoul are currently off limits to us.

This should be changed to any six missions.

Or they should fast track “new” missions. I was very pro, “let’s get back to normal.” But now seeing more vaccinated folks get covid and spreading it, definitely making me re-think the long term goal here. I have missions close to me, thankfully, but this isn’t helping the situation in certain parts of the world or even here in the US…

  • Just hoping an official Niantic mod either posts here or at least takes notice of this situation.

You likely won’t get a response, but supposedly they read the forums 🤷🏼‍♂️

I can see the badge gatekeepers throwing a huge fit if Niantic rolls back to how last month worked. So, as I suggested, work some overtime and get new missions, even if they’re temporary, approved.

My thought is that it is too soon for this to come back and they will not schedule more after the testings.

  • This is far much better than before. Plus NIA already did any 6+ missions for missions day count. So at least everyone got a chance to unlock their medal.

I wish at least every major city had a set of MD missions. Cleveland isn't completely a backwater town, but the closes MD set is Pittsburgh 2.5hr away. That seems so arbitrary, Dayton OH has a set yet is only the 6th largest city in Ohio.

What is the background on how cities were chosen for MD missions? Is there any way to request/submit new ones currently?

Making this a regular kind of event where having 1 convenient set is the difference between ticking the badge trivially and traveling hours every month is extremely unbalanced (to the extent that can mean anything for a badge). It doesn't make much sense, is the intent that the badge just means you live by a place that hosted a MD at any point in the past?

Players need to apply to host a Mission Day. Applications are currently closed though, but hopefully they will reopen soon.

Niantic works with players on drafting the missions, sourcing the badge images etc. There's also a requirement to theme it and work with a local agency like the Tourism board, etc.
