Can someone enlighten ( pardon my pun ) why my portal got rejected?

Big **** graffiti. Cool looking graffiti. No private property, visable on streetview. Full and clear photo + extra surroundingsphoto on prime, not close to another portal. Very accessible, safe for pedestrians, ... Why are we unable to appeal for this? First time I get a rejection, pretty new to it all.. So am I missing something?

Imho, it was one of my best candidates ( especially visually )

Can you copy and paste the link to the picture you submitted? Just leave off the https:// at front and you should be able share it here.

You need to show us the submission if you want us to tell you why it may have been rejected

Some people believe that graffiti may be subject to removal sooner or later by authorities, hence why they might reject it. Personally I disagree, anything beyond just an ugly tag is a valid candidate in my eyes.

As Corozad suggested some reviewers don't like graffiti and may mark it as 1* Temporary or Seasonal Display. Without seeing the proposed portal photo it's hard to say if there were other reasons, but sometimes what seems like a dead cert to us may in reality take a few tries until it gets accepted.

As you can see the graffiti is quite old and the area in which it is placed is full of Graffiti. Kanter Dhanens, a local artist has made a somewhat 'route' full of graffiti and it supported by the town in doing so. Thanks for the feedback so far.

I am not able to view the image. Maybe I am doing something wrong?

Can't see the image either, but I will add that image is VERY important as many do OPR om mobile and see just the image before any text. Also, it's called "OPR Bingo" and valid portals may have to be re-submitted again a time or two.

    Does it work now?

  • It doesn't seem to work for me either. Ridiculous I can't show the picture.

Oh well, shall have to accept that Nia is flawed, once again.

  • That's the one Judy!!! :D Thank you!

There a lot of fake portal attempt using pictures lik this one.

You should try again. Use a wider picture ND a different angle for the support.

Are this the coyote and road runner?

  • I actualy took a much wider picture as a second picture as I explained in my OP, and it is also visible on streetview. So that's lazy on their part if they didn't look further!

It is a fox and a chicken. I called it "Green chicken and the fox" in my native language. I think it would have been great seeing it on the comm like that.

I guess I am just disappointed that I have 'waisted' a nomination because the reviewers didn't do their job properly and that Nia doesn't allow appeals for this.

Thank you all for your replies!

  • I'm not usually keen on graffiti as portals (although I don't 1* unless it's some completely artless tagging). This, however, looks great. Is it visible on street view? If not, I strongly suggest you do a photosphere at the spot. That should remove any doubt.

If you call it a Mural, they may decide it's portal worthy . In my area of the world, Graffitti is what we call vandalism. Unwanted painting . A mural is a may take days to do, and has the permission of the owner of the wall.

You're going to be feeling like you "wasted" a nomination a lot. It's just the way OPR goes, some things have to be submitted multiple times before they're accepted. Just part of the game. Would you be able to weigh the plants/brush down in front of it, to make the art work more visible?

  • @ JohnnyAlphaCZ, as explaind above it is visible on streetview which is why I don't get that it is not accepted. There is no tag, but graffiti is generally accepted if it is 'artsy' and not vandalism-like.

@ Mickster, I'll try giving it a more in depth explanation. I might be able to find newspaper articles about this area and why it has so much graffiti.

  • @ArtilectZed at first I wasn't a big fan of the bushes in front of it.. But when you look at it a second time, it kinda makes sense when you have a chicken and a fox chasing it. Makes it a bit more 'real', no?

  • ArtilectZedArtilectZed ✭✭✭✭✭

@DeWes88 It's also obscuring the art work, somewhat. Looking at it again, I guess those are more like small trees instead of brush, though. It's a hard call.

  • True @ArtilectZed, it wasn't an easy decision. I could get each one seperately fully on the picture.. But somehow I felt both together much better. There is a 3rd ( left ) and 4th ( right ) as well.. But these 2 were stunning imho.

  • ArtilectZedArtilectZed ✭✭✭✭✭

A wide shot of all 4 might be what gets it in as a portal

  • sisimeonsisimeon ✭✭✭

    Looks like a good candidate!

Resubmit and hope for the best. Unfortunately valid candidates are rejected all the time, and the only thing we can do is to resubmit

  • @ArtilectZed, I'm afraid that would be too wide for it to be even clear that the 2 are part of it. As you can see on the original picture, the graffiti is quite large. And the left one is a bit further down the wall..

  • Simple reason. The community is you know what and don't/didn't follow OPR rules.
