Brainstorm: A store item that increases recharge range

HosetteHosette ✭✭✭✭✭

The world is starting to open up to travel again. That means more people are going to be casting around trying to find someone to take their keys while they travel, or maybe recharging at the hairy edge of their range.

I would gladly pay some reasonable amount of money for an item that would increase my recharge range/efficiency for an hour. My ideal would be that it just remove any range limitations for that period of time, but doubling or tripling the player's range would also be a reasonable change. The latter would retain some notion of level-based recharge range.

I've been thinking about the gameplay ramifications of this and I think it would be used almost exclusively as a convenience, though it would certainly be used to save portals in some corner cases where keys need to be transferred rapidly.

I think this would be a useful addition. Would be helpful for solo players for when they have to travel.

Recharge range doesn’t play an impact into most people’s normal play, only really affecting people who travel, or have keys to international PITA portals.

The only time I see it having a major impact is in anomalies, it would open up a lot more agents to recharge for a site.

I would imagine a small percentage of agents have ever even used the full L8 recharge range, much less the L16. That said, it can have some niche value for keeping that one portal up on an island somewhere, and would allow you to participate in anomolies that come nowhere near you (or possibly even your country), so yeah... sounds reasonable, as long the server can handle a few thousand extra anomaly rechargers.

  • Sounds like a "pay to backpacks can recharge" to me. 🤔

How so? Please explain your line of thinking.

This sounds like a good idea. Though depending on how much dev time it would take vs how many would purchase such a bonus/mod/item (ROI).

I'd buy a few for sure. I have a few keys outside my recharge range that I'd use an item to help keep recharged.

This sounds to me, "i will leave my keys to a low level account to recharge".

5 or 6 keylockers for me is enough to save 500/600 keys to recharge, without the need for anything else.

4000 KM is the recharge distance for Level 16 or recursed.

..... theres a range to recharging?

@MatiasM20 This thought was precipitated by someone in my area asking, "I'm going to be traveling. Can someone recharge (area) for me while I'm out of range?" I live on the west coast of the US and it's quite common for people here to be charging things at the edge of L16 recharge range, so even a few hundred miles inland can put you out of range. People also do things like traveling to other continents, although that obnoxious virus has made that far less common in the last year and a half. And sometimes people spend a week at a time without internet access, though I personally can't imagine how that works...

I moved coast to coast in the US last year. I still recharge portals on the other side of the country. A couple of them are 3,994 km from where I live now. When I visit family half an hour away (or my other relatives out of state), those portals are outside of the 4,000 km range, so I always have to make sure I charge them before I leave. I also have family in Europe and if I ever wanted to visit them when travel opens up again, it would be nice to have an item like this for peace of mind.

I'm not seeing the logic here. How would a low level backpack account help overcome the 4,000 km limit?
