Pausing missions or ability to do more than one at a time

So, I'm someone who likes long roadtrips. I've driven coast-to-coast across the United States twice. I've also taken a number of other roadtrips across multiple state lines that were hundreds of miles long. I'm also a mission fanatic.

I like doing banners. I'll usually do the local banners at my out-of-town destination. I rarely ever do banners on the drive itself though, usually because I don't have the time to stop for that long. But I do like to collect individual missions from places on my route, and I'll usually do 6 or 12 of those to keep my rows even.

Some individual missions that attract my attention are ones that are really long-distance, like hundred(s) of miles long but happen to follow my route, so I'm not actually going out of my way to complete them. For example, when I lived in Washington state, I did a Kurt Cobain-themed mission that started in Aberdeen, stopped in Olympia, and finished in Seattle (roughly a 110 mile long mission).

Well, I'm looking at the possibility of a future roadtrip, and as I always do, I'm researching missions along my route on the intel map. I found two missions on my route that are over 100 (maybe 200) miles long; one of them goes from state border to state border. We'll call it Mission A.

BUT, here's where I have a problem. I found another Mission B that I'm interested in that is located roughly halfway between where Mission A begins and ends. Ingress only allows you to complete one mission at a time, and my only real option to do Mission B would be to abort Mission A and lose the progress I gained from driving halfway across the state. The only other option in theory is to finish Mission A, turn around and drive halfway across the state to do Mission B and drive that again to continue my trip (effectively wasting hundreds of miles and driving the distance of the whole state twice), which is something even I'm not crazy enough to do.

So how else could it be possible for me to complete both Mission A and Mission B?

Pause Mission Progress

One option would be if we had an ability to pause our progress in a mission as an alternative to aborting all of our progress. So in this case, let's say I'm halfway done with Mission A when I arrive at the location of Mission B. I would pause Mission A, go out of the mission, and start Mission B. Then after completing Mission B, I could go back into Mission A and resume where I left off.

Another benefit to being able to pause a mission would be to not mess up the estimated time listed in the scanner to complete it. Sure, sometimes the time is messed up intentionally to troll, but it could also be someone who didn't want to lose their progress. Currently, you can start a mission and for some reason not finish it, but decide that you don't want to lose your progress, so you keep the mission open on the scanner. Maybe you go back next week and have had the mission open on your scanner the entire time. You finish the mission and now it displays the estimated time at 7 days. That hurts the reputation of the mission as other agents see the time and figure it's a bad mission.

If this agent had been able to pause it, it would stop the clock. When they go back to complete it, their time averaged in would be more reflective of how much time it takes to do the mission uninterrupted.

Multiple Missions at once

Another option would be the ability to activate more than one mission at once. So in my example, I could do Mission B while Mission A is also still active and seamlessly go back to Mission A after finishing Mission B.

I feel like it would have the potential to improve the experience of doing banners. If I'm about to do an 18-part banner, I could activate all 18 missions and have no interruptions going from one mission to the next, rather than fiddling through multiple screens and taps to get to the next mission. Which can be a bit stressful to do in time when you are in a moving vehicle.

The more I think of this second option though, the more I think it would need to come with more of an overhaul of the missions system overall that will allow us to better sort missions and group them together in the scanner. Thoughts?

It would be a useful addition, even without taking on one of the super long ones. You may, for instance, find the road you need for a mission is underwater during seasonal flooding, and this would keep you from needing to discard the mission.

I don't think you should be able to hold progress on missions or do multiple at once. Just finish the mission you're on and start the next. No one is going to be impressed by your mission mosaic macaroni art except you.

Clearly didn't read the post about how that is not possible in the scenario I described. And I don't care about what others think about my missions, I do it for my own enjoyment.

Completely agree, missions (and mosaics) are for my enjoyment to have as keepsakes to remind me of past trips or events. Not everything has to be an e-**** to show off to the world, though that's clearly all some people seek in life.

Funny thing is, not too long after his post, I was looking through old photos for previous NL-1331 events and totally didn't intend to come across this message that I had long forgotten about:

Not the only time I got complimented on my missions either. It's nice when people say things like that, but I don't seek validation from others. Like you, I do it as a way to collect "momentos" from trips that I can look back on.

I dont enjoy doing missions personally for a number of reasons, but when I fo them on occasion, one annoyance for me is that is portal dense areas, a lot of the .issuing will have you hacking the same portals over and over again which I find infuriating, so being able to do a couple of missions at once would be good as it would save having g to walk back and forward in a line 4 or 5 rimes so youncan hack the same 5 portals to complete missions

  • I have the same opinion it is to pause a mission and not to abandon it... Especially when there is a bug like it happened to me in Basel, Switzerland... Unfortunately I couldn't follow the group because I had to abandon the mission and I couldn't pause it, restart the game and resume where I was... And the possibility to do several missions at the same time is something interesting in small cities like the one I live in...

  • Those would be nice.

It would also be nice to let your drone do one visit in a mission (it can only move once an hour anyway), for when construction blocks your way, or flooding, or park hours, etc.

But IMO the thing missioners need most is: The ability to filter missions on the intel map. If you're going a place you've been before, it would really be nice to have the map show you which you have not done, so you can plan your trip.

  • I think that problem (and others like mission order in banners) could be fixed if agents would be able to change the position of two missions, repeating the process when you like your mission panel.

some agents wants to keep date order and others wants to change order. must be a decision of agents being able to fix new problems.

just redo the mission you want to appear last....
