Hand over Ingress to players.
This is a serious question for Niantic.
Would you consider handing over certain dev functions, forum, support and event management to the player community?
You have proven unable to manage the app well, support is next to useless and communications remain next to non existent.
I am not asking for access to portal data. You should be able to excise those portions of code and leave UI, COMM etc open. (For instance our software company excises core licensing functionality from access to devs apart from one or two senior people).
You could still earn money from the product but save via outsourcing a lot to us, the players. (Lets face it, you already outsource portal creation, scanning and certain parts of support and forum maintenance to Vanguards and XMA).
Players have always organised most of the events.
What you are doing now is not working.

Why don't the community gather and create it's own game instead of demanding this one to be handed over?
I'm certain that there is enough of competent people. And we could add blackjack and horses.
I don't get the reference?
Bender on Futurama. I changed it a bit.
Not sure where the community would get the computing infrastructure. Running a worldwide, fully synchronized AR game is neither trivial nor cheap.....
If that happened, maybe we would have the colorful and moving text like back in the good ole AIM days.
@IncidenceMatrix It would come from the cloud computing fairy, of course! And it would be perfectly stable so there would be no need for expensive SREs like me...
Niantic would still own the game.
A lot to discuss if it were to be a thing.
