Scanning Update Wish List!

  • Hi all!

It is very annoying that the frame in which you have to hold the object to scan takes up so little space relative to the size of the screen itself. I understand that there must be some technical limitation behind it, but... There are often times when you don't physically have the ability to move away from an object so that you can completely catch it with the frame. In this case, you have to make several passes with the camera, **** the object in layers at close range: the top part, a little lower, a little lower, and so on to the end. This can be a way out, yes, but it doesn't look right.

Or is this just a problem for me and I'm getting too obsessed about it?

I think multiple passes are fine. It’s kinda like trying to scan a big library, you can’t be too far away or you’re not able to scan (though there is a trick to that), so I’ll scan what I can and hope we can add to it later.

The hexagons should be grabbing some of the same data each pass, so it should connect. I’ve used a 3D scanner before and it was similar, multiple passes and each pass showed the previous pass, so you’re able to make sure you get it all. Ideally this is what happens in Ingress eventually…
