UI - Does anyone design it and does any QA take place?
Legit question- Does anyone design it and does any QA take place?
The UI appears to be just a "throw a button there and make it work" kind of thing. The compass and the portal/drone layer button - randomly dropped in the main gameplay area. At one point they even appeared in the glyph screen!
The two lines of COMMs - pointless. Can't click them to take you anywhere meaningful and show stuff that isn't tied into the slider in the log (which also doesn't work)
The XM Bar and the name at the top - they move up and down for no reason, depending on what you press.
There's loads of wasted space taken up that could show more of the local area.

We need a new community manager, then we can resume those AMA that many liked.
I would care less if the UI issues got fixed quickly.
Honestly, the one UI change that makes me realize how little Niantic understands gameplay/UI is the layer system for visited/captured. It feels like they heard a strong signal of "players want to know whether this is unique for them" and stopped there. They didn't take the next step of asking, "How will players use this information?" The painfully obvious use case for knowing what you've visited is to seek out the ones that are unique for you. Thus, the obvious UI change is to make unique portals more visible to the player. Instead, Niantic took exactly the opposite approach-- they made the uninteresting ones more visible and you have to hunt for the ones that are interesting.
