Currently unknown, no official word on this matter and there probably won’t be for a long time.

Less than 30% of the USA population is fully vaccinated. There’s probably some countries with a greater percent, and definitely MANY with far less. The possibility of another wave is very real should we all ditch the precautions right now. There likely won’t be any in-person Niantic-organized events until the global population is more fully vaccinated (or at least in the predominant countries with Agents). Some places are only now slowly relenting on the imposed rules and restrictions, and still others are ramping them up.

I, personally, do feel that we should get back to a more normal groove and get back to normal in-person events. But you must come at this from a global company perspective, as well as a global perspective, to really understand what going back to normal in-person events could result in (backlash, possible penalties from who knows where and what since many governments WILL try to pull such stunts, etc) until things are more tightly managed.

well its far from over global, mutations in some countries still going very high... seems unlikely this year anomalies or real mission days...

ID say the pandemic isn't fully under control yet, India has shown how badly it can spiral quickly. Even here in the UK numbers are rising again in places because of the Indian variant despite quite a high amount of people vaccinated. I suspect that if there going to be any event that requires meeti g up or travelling, it will be either later in the year, like, much later (assuming we don't have new waves in winter) or next year

  • I just can't see Mission Days happening during the pandemic in their current form, unfortunately. It would be way too messy for Niantic to review Mission Day locations and try to figure out which cities are and are not experiencing restrictions or outbreaks.

What I really want is to see Mission Days become a monthly community-driven event (like First Saturdays) in the long term, particularly in a format where Niantic can essentially say, "you are welcome to organize your own event while adhering to local health codes and safety guidelines" while still recommending socially-distanced mission completion. They could even start with some loose rules-- no medal so that people who can't attend don't feel left out, no group photo requirement so there isn't an incentive to have people congregate in one place, etc.

I try to jump around to different First Saturday events each month, and I am already starting to see a few cities begin to plan unofficial in-person FS components for vaccinated and/or negative-testing players. The world is still very early in the vaccination process, but on a local level we really are seeing some municipalities begin to return to a relative sense of normalcy. It would be nice to have more recurring community events with initially low stakes.

The pandemic is still going strong in several places so I don’t see a live Mission Day happening. It is the only badge I’m missing on my scanner though so I would like to attend one. Maybe they can somehow do a virtual one like with First Saturday and the NL-1331 badge they’ve done recently.

Considering how long before pandemic we had no standalone missiondays in europe i would say no missiondays is normal situation. Last standalone missionday i attended was eisenstatd in oct 2018. As far as i remember thetr were no standalone missiondays after. Sadly, but thats how ingress normal is

For whatever reason, 2019-2020 live events are still "online". It looks like the last european Mission Day was planned for March 8. 2020.

2020 was supposed to be a year with a lot of Mission Days. They had streamlined the process and many of us in the UK were preparing submissions. A few had already been approved (e.g. Edinburgh, Milton Keynes), but then the pandemic arrived.

It was just dumb luck that when Niantic had made Mission Days a more common thing the world had to shut down. Hopefully at some point in the future we'll be able to get back to setting up Mission Days. However, I reckon that won't be until 2022.

not until 2022, pandemic is far from under control 😅

Wish list east coast inperson North America FS before December, with the first chapter of a new saga being written.

Mission Days maybe sometime in 2022.

I think we are still at least a year to 18 months away from an anomaly. Would love one within bus distance of northeastern North America.

  • Second Sundays Mission Days:

    Distributed format?

    • Sunday , July 11
    • Sunday , August 08
    • Sunday , September 12

Maybe Niantic can clarify the event, if for the mission day we must create mission with template 2021 ou just make mission around us.

It's a good idea for 2021 but we don't have much time for creation.

Pretty much self-sabotage at this point not making it possible for people to plan for events.
