As much as I would like this to happen too. Brian has made it clear that Sojourner ticks along with the drone, as well as being physically at said portal
The Drone counting is a useful fix for a problematic badge. I have no complaints about it remaining in that format, though I'm glad that Epoch (which is what Sojourner should have been) does require in person hacking.
Why was the original Sojourner problematic? Because it prevented you from passing your holidays in portal-free areas? Because you had to go out in the cold rain with a high fever? Because you could lose it if you were in hospital without a portal in reach?
I was happy with the original rules because it presented an occasional challenge and required dedication to keep it going. With drone hacking it is so trivial, all you need is internet access, a working device and not get banned from Ingress.
It suffers from the same "all or nothing" that Guardian did. One mistake sets you back to zero, which discourages incremental work. You're right, that it's basically a badge for obsessive people.

How dare you steal my precious, imaginary internet points! /s
After pandemic ends I hope drone also got removed from sojourner count.
Why did you not post it first?
@InvestigateXM probably should have added this disclaimer:

You mean the once a day hack or being cumulative? If they made it once a day, whatever the time you hack the drone hack can go, to increase challenge.
Nice wrap up, these days I lost how I thought as a beginner. Few months, everyone is a pro in this game.
