Don't like this one at all. It's just a luck-based badge for drivers and nothing more, and that's coming from someone who does drive and does turn out at silly o'clock to drop large fields.
No car? Local opposition never put anything much up? No chance then.
I like the idea. I think it would provide incentive for both the constructive and destructive playstyles. Sometimes fields stay up for a very long time because there is no point tearing them down if they are just going to come right back up. Knocking down those fields should be rewarded with more than just AP.
Additionally, not everyone likes to field, some prefer to destroy. This provides an additional avenue for leveling. Some people like fielding, so if your fields are coming down all the time, you get to remake them rather than watch them decay. Maybe you like doing both? I see it is a win win regardless of your personal preference.
This game is not sim city, half the time in this game or more u destroy stuff, lol the game even tracks what u destroyed amount etc.. i find it weird we dont have such medal yet..
I do not want to see this medal. Setting up BAF requires a coordinated effort which takes time and effort from multiple agents, while all it takes to drop it is drive to the anchor and press L8 XMP Bursters 50 times.
The reward of destroying a BAF is anchor access which you can use to setup your own BAF, and the return of fielding ability under the area.
I personally would enjoy seeing a badge like this added. I already drive hours as is to take down links and cast BAFs over nearby cities, rewarding the opposing faction agent whom went out of their way to take down said BAFs to open the play area back up for their own faction members only makes sense to me. There are also some quite complex large scale multi-layered fields from both factions with well placed anchor points that have been up for months now among the four different cells I play in, yet I am not really incentivized myself currently to take down the opposing faction's multi-field(s) (or go rogue and flip an anchor of my own faction) given it does not directly interfere with my own fielding plans currently and the AP I could generate going out of my way to take it down could more easily be generated in my local city by capping, linking, and micro-fielding a handful of portals.
Sure technically there is already an incentive to take down non-obstructive fields, and that is to help decrease the opposing faction's influence on the Local and Global scoreboard, as well as to make way for state or multi-state wide links and fields, but honestly I do not care much for the Global/Local scoreboard as there is no agent specific incentive there either other than to have your agent name listed among the top 3 scorers (bragging rights), and large scale ops are a bit rare where I live but even then the path of least resistance (less links/fields to take down) is usually chosen.
Another badge I may suggest to further incentivize the creation and destruction of BAFs which could strike parity with OP's badge suggestion, and to reward agents acquiring a top three leader board position among their cell(s), would be a multi-tier badge handed out to those agents that have achieved a position on the leader board multiple times. This would be counted with every new checkpoint their name is listed as top three scorers among their cell.
Essentially, a player can strive toward three big badges at once then.
Go and take down an opposing faction's BAF for the BAF destroyer badge.
Proceed to then cast your own BAF over the newly freed up play area for your own faction for the Illuminator badge.
Having destroyed the opposing faction agent's BAF their name has now been removed from the score board come the next checkpoint, this then makes room for your own name where you had created your own BAF giving you points toward your top scorer/contributor badge.
I think a combination of OP's and my badge suggestions would help create and incentivize even more BAF ops among both the teamed up agents and the sole agents leading to an even more diverse and wonderfully chaotic battlefield.
It's not always BAF's, metro citys can have smaller fields that can acquire a ton of MU. Shoots, I played in Hawaii in the beginning of 2013, months before they released the Illuminator badge (and VRLA's) and when they finally did I had 1.2 million MU from fields I created from my time just on the island of Oahu. Honestly, if there's a statistic for it, there should be a badge for it, otherwise take the stat away since it's meaningless.
Why limit it to just large fields? And what exactly is a large field? I've seen million mu fields over the ocean with zero population coverage. I've seen 2k mu fields that cover a quarter of a state. I'm pretty sure I've taken down more mu from my own fields than mu from the opposition. And really taking down a field takes no teamwork. So why even have a badge for it? There are too many badges as it is.
Instead of just BAFs, which I consider BAFs fields that generate large amounts of MUs, not large in size (though that could also be tallied by calculating the area of the triangle field based on its link lengths), apply it to all fields. Tally the amount of MUs lost from the field destruction (shown in alerts by the -### MUs alert). Call it the Deluminator badge, Niantic is already working with Rolling and the Harry Potter IP anywho, should be fine to include a badge name coined by a device utilized by Albus Dumbledore.
I personally would like a destruction badge for each stat that mirrors the builder version. So we have builder and purifier for resonators. We have connector & mind controller, but we also have stats for links & fields destroyed. Those, IMHO, should also be badges.
I would also like a stat for mods destroyed; it's a shame we don't already have that.
I don't think it will add alot of value. and they don't keep track of this value just yet, so everybody will start at 0 just like with the engineer badge ...
They do have a value for # of fields destroyed, I think that offers a bigger challenge than just driving to and destroying a big field... but then that's just me typing. I would also like guardian links and guardian fields as those are also present in the data (combat section)
Purifier badge is intended to keep players playing. Don't you find it strange that Onyx requirements are 100K higher that the builder one?
That badge is only achievable in high density areas and depends directly on opposing team (have you already forgot Cassandra's disaster?). It's only goal is to keep you playing for it and making room for lower players to play.
The mod destruction stat is nice, I support that. But not a badge, just the stat.
But they already track fields and links destroyed, so the could do retroactive badge pretty easily. I suspect they won't though, because they really don't like to emphasize destruction, everything is about building.
@Hydraulinski A lot of people get Illuminator with no work other than going to an anchor, being handed a key, and making a link. I'm actually not a big fan of that either but it's a fair comparison.
I think that badges for Portals Neutralized, Enemy Links Destroyed, and Enemy Fields Destroyed make a lot more sense than MU destroyed. They parallel Liberator, Connector, and Mind Controller.
But thats team work results. An equivalent for destroying MU will just be about luck, or at best creating a whole new sidegame making agent race to destroy it first. I personally like I'd the result became this, but it would need a really high number like 1bi of MU for black, to create a real challenge.
Destroyer medals would sure be nice. I've been requesting mods destroyed since the Engineer badge came out. A breakdown of mods destroyed would be sweet too! How many Aegis mods have you killed? I'm guessing Niantic is hesitant to add really any new stats for the most part minus what helps them grow their only owned IP until they get those backend servers up to par.
I wouldn't hold your breath. I don't see much of anything new coming for a while. I mean, I couldn't even **** a enemy portal the other day due to a bug with something (likely backend related). But hey, we got that new Dronenet icon on our scanners. Maybe it will equate to some new stat?
Negative: people would be less vigilant about possibilities of BAF from another faction. BAFs prevention plays a big role for highly active communities where BAF is a way to show off.
Positive: more incentive for people to journey around and destroy those fields standing for months.
@TheKluten Based on a quick perusal of a GDPR data dump my answer is no, they do not have those data available. I would not consider that a conclusive statement, though.
F spoofers. One more easy medal won't matter to them. The players should not be denied a good thing due to cheaters.
This stat would really encourage players to take down bafs. There is very low player base in my state, especially in one faction and most players are not motivated to travel 30+ km alone to remove a baf. A medal will help them in motivation and is a nice reward.

Negative impact could be that agents won't counter against field ops to be able to get mu destroyed badge.

If we sums this up it's like 60/40 with 60 for a medal 🥉.
And I personally would love one. And I like medals.
And a stat saying biggest field Destroyed, that would be nice imo. 😀
I wouldn't mind one wanton destruction badge that took into account fields, links, and portals as one stat.
You made the comment I was going to make. :(
But they already track fields and links destroyed, so the could do retroactive badge pretty easily. I suspect they won't though, because they really don't like to emphasize destruction, everything is about building.
Excellent idea, and if you destroy field with virus you only get for example 50% compared to **** down.
Nope. Lets award the agent who create things, not opportunistic destroyers.
Guess we have to remove the destroyer badge then.
It's not a fair comparison. A MU destroyer can earn black in one go. The destroyer medal is and should remain the only reward for destroing.
But you need resos in order for the fields to be there.
@Hydraulinski A lot of people get Illuminator with no work other than going to an anchor, being handed a key, and making a link. I'm actually not a big fan of that either but it's a fair comparison.

Can't create MU without destroying some...

Well that depends on the value the medal gets
But think about it
If a agent travels 3 hours in the mountains to **** a pita anchor should he/she not be rewarded with some stats towards a medal 🥉?
I see two faces of the coin.
Negative: people would be less vigilant about possibilities of BAF from another faction. BAFs prevention plays a big role for highly active communities where BAF is a way to show off.
Positive: more incentive for people to journey around and destroy those fields standing for months.
Biggest reward for that is the joy of helping your faction and preventing higher score for the other.
Since we have new features coming like the filter
I would love to see this medal go live
Do you think Nia has saved these stats?
@TheKluten Based on a quick perusal of a GDPR data dump my answer is no, they do not have those data available. I would not consider that a conclusive statement, though.

I'm not sure I'd want the medal if it wasn't retroactive, unless the start date is clearly marked on the medal like the end date was for guardian.
