Intelmap based virtual events

What do you think about last month's Valentine's Day celebration? Are you following it? and does your community follow it? (https://community.ingress.com/en/discussion/13578/who-s-your-ingressvalentine)

I myself follow and several agent friends in my community, relying on Google search, Google Map & Wikipedia. I managed to find more than 20 portals (mostly in Africa) outside my country (Indonesia) and managed to post about 13 portals on Niantic's social media. here's one of my posts

For me personally it is very fun, because the event has taken me on a virtual tour to see amazing sights around the world through games, seeing unique places, getting to know a little history and culture of the city where the portal is located.

I looked at Niantic's social media, there weren't many who followed him, and I knew that there was a lack of enthusiasm for not being awarded a medal (maybe)

That made me think, with the current world condition that has not yet recovered from the Covid-19 Pandemic so that we don't get field events as usual like the year before the Pandemic, yes, even though now Niantic is making observations by trying the "Optima Kinetic Challenge" Event".

Given last year's Tesselation also used Intelmap as a substitute for Live Drop when the pandemic began to plague the world. Yes, Tesselation is very good because it is a puzzle before it can find the portal via Intelmap.

It would be great if we got a virtual event based on Intelmap like this again (Tesselation Puzzle & Valentine's Day) or something new based on Intelmap. and with a medal of course.

Yes, I'm just trying to convey my stupid idea here, my friends can perfect it and it's open for discussion. sorry if my sentence is not good, I use google translator.

so what do you think?

  • I miss the Shard Spawn scrambles when we had to find the locations purely from a smashed picture of the portal.

when the event ?, can you share the link for me to read

  • There hasn't been one since the G+ days, so they aren't links any more.

This was the link to (AFAICR) the latest data: https://storage.googleapis.com/objx/tokyodarkxmoperation/ap-9fr36z9bkmx4ixzwztc63xzxqkqvtp5i.html

They sent out pictures and said "Hack these for media" for an event. It's largely the same format they used to say "Find these portal images to know where shards would spawn" and each faction had to find the images.

Thank, interesting, but because of Covid, of course we won't be able to get it again in the near future 😅

therefore we might be able to get it instead by using intelmap and yes it becomes virtual.

I thought the Valentine's Event was based on what sent in their favorite portal a few months before?

Wasn't the event based on having a screenshot of the key and not the actual location of the place?

There was en entire Intel-map based series of events back in the Tessellation days. After covid began, it was all Intel Map, decoding, finding the portal and the passcode based on the clues and Intel map. Those were pretty fun, tbh. I don’t even want to go into how many hours of sleep I lost during some of those 😂

yes, after that there was an update that said "intelmap link is fine too"

Edit : and I got a special passcode by sending the intelmap link

yes that's right, i learned a lot from there, it really impressed me. because of that I miss him back .😂

I would love some intel map events that are about thinking creatively rather than finding specific bits of knowledge.

An intel map field art competition would be cool, for example. Maybe do them with themes? "This month's virtual field art subject is birds. Use the intel map to draw bird art, and share your creation." Art work must use the normal rules of Ingress fielding and linking, i.e. portal-to-portal only, no more than 6881.28km links, cap on outgoing links from any portal, etc.

It would also be fun to have intel map scavenger hunts that are not about finding a very specific location, but about finding concepts. Here are some ideas:

    • A statue made of wood
    • A mural with at least three chickens in the image
    • A pair of portals within 100 meters of each other whose names both start with W, but not with the same word
    • A plaque, statue, or other memorial commemorating someone born in the year 1876
    • Two portals at least 100km apart that have the exact same name
    • A portal commemorating a famous author, and another commemorating one of their books, at least 10km apart
    • A portal in your home country whose title is in a language that isn't an official language of your country

In fact, if Niantic wants to do a scavenger hunt I will volunteer to create the first list. If they don't, I might just do it myself.

The Valentine's event was a neat idea, but it would have been nice if Niantic could have somehow limited it to regions and only one entry per person. It was fun finding some portals though and thankfully they allowed the Intel link in place of a screenshot of a key (as most of the portals nobody has keys to).

If you like the intel scavanger hunt, have you tried participating in the FevGames Puzzle a Day challenge? A First Saturday puzzle is posted every 25 hours with no information other than the image, so you have to locate the area and find all the portals to uncover the passcode (which more often than not still works! lol)

Yes, I mean that Intelmap based virtual events can be used as a solution so that field events cannot be carried out so that we still have challenges during the current pandemic.

The list of specific locations for intel map scavenger hunts is good, it makes intel challenge interesting with more search category.

  • LightseagreenLightseagreen ✭✭✭✭

Not being limited maybe because it doesn't become a challenge, if it could be a challenge with individual points (cumulative for the faction) it will make a lot of people participate.

Yes the FevGames Puzzle a Day challenge is very good, it makes eyes water like this emoticon 😂 , lol

they ran monthly Glyph Art Challenges during 2019. I thought those were great! especially because it wasn't required that it be field art, which would work nicely for the current pandemic situation we are all in.

I would love a Virtual Battle Beacon available.

You could join the Battle only if able to decode the glyphs formed by Intel pictures around the globe (much like IFS).

This intel drops can be made public using Ingress social networks, specifying the time & date of the Battle.

After decoding, you get a Battle Beacons Pass.

The portals to be used for this battles could be the ones considered "unreachable" like the ones from Antártica, si the global map and stats remain unaffected.

Imagine a 50 vs 50 Battle Beacon virtual Fight?

Drones could be used also to watch the Battle if you decided but spots were already fulfilled.

Everything happens on Remote view, like using keys or drones.

Lore-wise, this tech is already available... Its just a variation of the Drone, Remote View, and Remote Participation Experiments.
