Should current portal cooldown stay permanent?
I myself have gone into maxfielding which is such a bliss with current cooldown (given the enormous speed of spending keys on links), that I'll probably stop maxfielding if the 5 minute cooldown is returned.
Even my local Res player who is not into community and events, says he likes such fast-paced gameplay we have now, without stupidly waiting 15 minutes on each portal.
What do you think?

I completely agree with you here!
It creates a much more dynamic playing field, as people are more inclined to go field now.
I've only started playing since this new cooldowm came into effect, I honestly don't think I could play on the old time limits, even now I hate the current time limit and use vr hs often to save time when farming anchors lol so I hope this is kept up forever as I feel ingress can be a fast paced games
Colldown at this time is also a pleasure for me, because I like fielding, it really helps so I got the Mind Controller Onix in December last year.
I hope the current coodown lasts forever, so that my Mind Controller will soon have red wings 😃
Totally agree. Sure, i won`t stop do fields even if cooldown will be 5 minutes as previously, but IMO 90 secs much better, you anyway want to use HS to speed up your farm, so there` no any problem with that
It does at the same time make things a little too easy maybe ? i dont know ? same with double r7 feels its permanent by now.. Will they ever revert back to 5m ? In a way its good but at the same time it makes every high lvl portal a farm portal without any strategy really... is this the new game direction ?
not the double r8 though.
That's too boring
I agree that it should be made a permanent change. We have had a significant increase in the number of local players since the cooldown was dropped to 90 seconds. I don’t see the point of 5 minute cooldowns.
But does a 90 second cooldown mean that VRHS or RHS are uSeLeSs? No. I still use my HS, RHS, and VRHS as much as I used to. I am just so so so much faster at completing my fanfields than having to wait forever (what felt like a million years) hacking keys.
Most importantly, since Niantic wants to increase the influx of new players, I feel making this change permanent would be a great start because the biggest complain I heard from all my friends I tried recruiting was how slow the game was. 😅
True. I honestly can't imagine how newcomers would feel if 5 minute cooldown is returned. "Deeply disappointed" is the first words which come to my mind
I remember before we have Hack burnout bonus 12x (cmiiw) and it feels the game became too easy and multihack is feels useless. But it was reverted back to 4x and the game is pretty balanced now. it is perfect combined with 90s cool down. But back to 5 min I feel that will be too slow that I can imagine how long I must stay on a portal to farm keys.
I'd maintain it a couple of months after the pandemic is over (if it finally ends someday and we don't have a new one) because in some places many players are inactive right now, so I'd wait to see how this affects the "normal" gameplay with everyone active.
Maybe the old timing was too slow but maybe, with more active players, this new timing is too fast.
My concern is what do we do with hack mods in this case?
For multihacks, you don't do anything. You still have to increase that 4 hacks per 4 hours somehow.
For heatsinks, I don't know about you but I use them pretty often because even waiting 90s between hacks is too long with (very) rare multihack installed.
The current cooldown time is definitely nice, but it has a couple of negative effects:
I enjoy the faster cooldowns, but I don't think it's a good thing for the game in a year or two, in the same way I enjoy the extra R7, but I think keeping it when things get back to being social, isn't a good idea either.
A compromise is also possible. Increasing the cooldown time to 2 or 2.5 minutes could make heatsinks more attractive while still keeping the faster gameplay that people are enjoying.
Although I would rather eat my phone than microfield I too would like to make this change, or at least some reduced cooldown, permanent.
I don't think a longer cooldown adds any interesting elements to gameplay, and I don't think it solves any gameplay problems. It's annoyance without a clear upside.
I love it but it has to go.
I still use vr heatsinks when farming because I want even shorter cooldown. The vrhs I think also adds a higher frequency of good drops (could be my imagination)
Even with this short cooldown I still have my q-cap with 96 c-heatsinks, to be able to move faster when fielding. Often you dont want to wait 90 sec to be able to hack the same portal twice.
Frackers appear to light portals on fire, so one might wonder why heat sinks aren't necessary to maintain short cooldown times. (Read as: Applying a Fracker to a portal could increase its cooldown time, thus necessitating the use of a heat sink to bring that time back down to 90 seconds, or whatever.)
And less time spent farming seems like a positive effect, not a negative? The absence of another benefit (increased base inventory) merely means that the time that's no longer spent on farming can be spent on other ways of enjoying life.
@Toxoplasmolly I think of it this way: I have a fixed amount of time to play Ingress. I'll spend some percentage of that time farming gear, and the rest using gear. (Yes, I'm oversimplifying.) Using gear is more fun than farming, so if there's a change that means more using time and less farming time I'm in favor of that.
I'm not a big fan of the fracker suggestion, though, and I suspect it would mean Niantic sells fewer of them. I want Ingress to be financially successful.
