As for date earned it would only be visible to the agent themselves, regardless of open or closed stats. It's so you can have a record in scanner of when you earned a badge.
As much as I still hold out hope that GORUCK Stealth Ops and Operation Clear Field can return when Anomalies and large gatherings resume post pandemic, I agree that Niantic should consider flattening the tiers into SSPBs if the GORUCK x Ingress partnership will not continue. Perhaps the stats for Clear Field Events, Prime Challenges, and Stealth Ops missions could remain visible on the updated flattened medals?
Stealth Ops especially exists in a weird place where many have earned a higher physical Stealth Ops patch tier for event completions but only a handful have earned equivalent tiers in scanner due to the decision to not retroactively count event completions despite GORUCK having maintained this information for purposes of awarding their own physical patches. Not to mention how confusing it was when the tiered medal showed up after years of the dedicated Stealth Ops participation medal existing without tiers.
You can still make the function call what your stats contains regardless of what is displayed. Fun fact: the stats from any of the special events (any Nemesis character challenge, Via Lux Explorer, etc) is still logged in your profile. It's just the display was removed after the event was over.
I've attended a few of those events as well, but all before they did the tiered badge, so all I have is the previous ("camo") stealth ops badge. The lack of retroactive application of prior events is frankly insulting and one of the worst parts of these new tiered badges.
I agree that it would be nice if the stats were still show on the SSPB. Agreed wholeheartedly with your entire post.
Echoing this as well. For whatever reason I stopped redeeming character medals around 2016 and flat out stopped purchasing a majority of character medals when they made the transition to all digital codes. If I could sort all character medals into their own section I'd feel more encouraged to redeem what I'm sitting on and also purchase future character medals.
If nothing else, I would like to see character medals and "holiday" medals (New Year, Wintergreen, etc.) sorted into their own block, similar to how Anomaly medals are their own block, and then further sorted by art style or similar. They're fun, but they get in the way of getting a sense of what I've done as an Agent.
Could not agree more with the above posts. I would just like to add that back in the day, anomaly badges used to be mixed in with the achievement badges until Niantic unilaterally moved them to be grouped at the top. If Niantic does the same with character/holiday badges rather than allow us to rearrange them, please for the love of god do not group them above the achievement badges. It should be at the bottom below all anomaly and achievement badges. Ability to make them collapsible/hidden/separate would be awesome too.
I have the opposite problem: when they implicitly asked us to stop submitting, by removing the seer points, I did what they wanted and stopped submitting (waiting for a point at which seer points would be available again). So in 2017 they rewarded me with a slap in the face in that I would no longer be able to earn seer points, but everyone else who had continued contributing to the problem by submitting portals in the meantime would get their seer points after all.
+1 for reverting the Mission day medal to its previous superior design which by the way is, or was when we had them, used consistently in everything related to Mission days from missions to emails and confirmations. The only place where the "mansplaining" medal appears is in the agent profile, and it makes no sense as it´s unrelated and completely disconnected from the Mission day concept/iconography used in banners and communication.
It seems like such a low hanging fruit to revert to the old design, to show that Niantic listens, and may even win a few agents back again when Mission days start up again.
I'd like to group types of badges together, like we have all the anomaly badges at the top already. Why can't we have the general gameplay badges (pioneer etc) next, followed by the year badges, then character badges and then paid-for badges?
Well, the original MD medal design is much better I would say, because people connect the winged Ingress symbol with Ingress (obviously) and Mission day events. The new medal design is totally generic and bland. If you look at the event page from last year (by using web.archive.org), even Niantic used the original design in their official communication regarding MDs as late as March 1st 2020 which makes the new medal just an oddity in the agent profile and should hence be replaced with original design.
Be nice to sort out the mission medals too. For those who’ve made one mistake in the order of banners or want to move individual medals so they line up
We should start a new topic for that. They also should slightly adjust the amounts required for medals, because banners have made it really easy, but also because the tiers aren't divisible by 6...
I’ve shown zero interest in character medals, mostly because a badge that is just bought would dilute the badges that actually represent an achievement.
I’d be more interested in buying character badges if we could separate our badges into earned badges through gameplay, anomalies, events and other.
I'd love to see medals, missions and stats separated into different tabs and maybe allow agents to configure tab order?
Also having a few slots for "favorite" medals that always show up on top of the list would be cool.. something like a showcase of medals individual is most proud of.
You're either kidding, or you're an agent of chaos. I can just imagine the "noooooo" from people who has worked hard for their 6 column wide banners :)
That would literally mess up every single profile for anyone who has done missions. I swear you're just trying to upset people with some of your comments!
I've done a ton of six column wide banners but I'm not attached to any of them. They are all vanity projects. No one cares about your banners or missions but yourself.

Physical Stealth Ops Patch Tiers
1st completion - Standard Grey Stealth Ops patch
2nd - Bronze
3rd - Silver
4th - Gold
5th - Platinum
6th - Onyx
Putting stats on seperate tabs might break that? Would still need export all stats button.

You nailed it!

Simple truth: if earned medals were separated from character medals, I would be more willing to buy them.
You're not the first agent to say that either! Thanks for the input.

The medals are fine. It's the stat clusters that need to be reworked.
Grouping them seems obvious at this point. Maybe similar to the grouping of the stats.
I can see events and characters as their own group.

Well put! The old logo is used on swag all across the globe and the change made zero sense. Old badge was far, far superior.
I like the newer Mission Day medal design better

I think they should make the mission badges slightly larger so we have 5 per row.
When they build a new panel for non-gameplay badges, they can design it and the mission panel to work the same and allow rearranging :-)

So therefore we should mess them all up for everyone? No. That's just a horrendously bad idea.
