Which hats increase drop rates

It's no secret that wearing a hat increases glyph hack drop rates. Since so many modern phones now come without a headphone jack (making the old bit of cheese in the 3.5mm socket trick impossible) 'hatgressing' is one the few hardware hacks available to players. It's also one of the reasons that the whole fashion world looks to Ingress players as trend setters in millinery.

However, I have never been able to track down exactly which kind of hat is best. Norwegian agent HatBastard74 famously did an exhaustive hatgress study in 2016 but never published the results.

So I shall ask the community, which hat works best for you? Do certain hats affect the drop rate of certain items? Should I wear one the of half dozen rank, sweat and diesel stained caps I have or my Akubra?

My husband would say a fedora

    Pork-pie's work well

I like a tactical cap with Velcro patch up front and on the strap in back. Good for goruck patching, throwing a new anomaly patch on for each event... Or swap with your favorite badge or faction logo. One cap infinite versatility. Lends itself very well to swag. Sits well under a hoodie

I also prefer a wide brimmed Indiana Jones-like hat when the sun is beating down. Most fedoras don't offer enough shade... Though I think it is technically a fedora?

I've thought about a straight up coolie hat for high solar situations but I can't find any big enough. I do wonder though if I could pull it off...

@Zenn A fedora is defined mostly by the indentations the crown of the hat, two at the front or sides, with a third from the top, which creates the pinched point. Indy's hat is a wide brimmed sable fedora.

  • Oldshool flat cap and nothing else.

  • The main rules for this, is the hat needs to fit well. It can be worn in any fashion as long as its attached to the agents head and not inside-out. All stickers, and tags have to be removed from the bill and anywhere else. The last and absolute MAIN rule though, is the hat MUST have the color green covering at least 45% of the visible area and have a Enlightened logo on the front a minimum of 4"× 4".

    Good luck Agents 😉

If you want to be safe and avoid outside influences, wrap a hard hat in foil.

i have a wide-brimmed hat that I suppose I can cover in foil if I want to see my scanner in bright sunlight...

The secret here is your hat must match your socks!

The most important aspect of an Ingress hat is that it protects your eyes from the sun. Ideally it protects your scalp, neck, and ears, as well.

It's also fun to hear the opposite faction say "I see the pink hat coming, the party is over.". ;-)

You gotta go for the classics. The MU Hat or The Hat of the UCR. if you can't get one of those. A good ball cap, preferably Under Armour will work.

Does wearing a Pokémon GO hat lower drop rates?

  • HosetteHosette ✭✭✭✭✭

This one seems to have about a 1.5X effect on gear drops.

As far as I know, it is not only the hat but what your wear that works. I personally know some agents, both male, female and other gender identities, reported that wearing a Victorian clothing/styles from the Rococo period significantly increased their loot rate.
