toast messages for portal cooldown and burnout are not on screen long enough

in Report a Bug
[ Android 10, Nubia RedMagic 5S, Prime 2.65 ]
Besides being too low contrast to read, toast messages for portal cooldown and burnout spend too little time on screen to actually be read. They appear to be on for about a second. This needs to be longer.
The average person reads 200 to 300 words per minute, or 3 to 5 words per second.
"Portal burned out! It may take significant time for the Portal to reset." is 13 words. It will take the average person 3 or 4 seconds to read this.
"Portal burning hot! Unsafe to acquire items. Estimated time to cooldown: X seconds." is also 13 words.
I suspect other toast messages may have similar problems.

Please upvote. Nobody seems to disagree with this, and the programming change would be minor...
What's especially fun is when I'm trying to hack a portal before the previous hack's animation and messages have all been shown and processed. If that new hack is a bit too early, the "cooldown" message is up for maybe only a fraction of a second.
bump
Burnout and cooldown should both become output panels, like "Hack Acquired No Items"
And be interleaved with the other outputs, like it was back in the Classic client.
That way you can read them at your own leisure and tap them away when you've read them.
So something like this basically?
Also, does someone know what the in-game font is? It's not Exo 2, I used that one in the mockup.
Extending the duration of the
Portal burned out! It may take significant time for the Portal to reset.
(and similar) toasts should be relatively straightforward. Converting toasts into tap-to-dismiss dialogs is a bit more involved. We'll look at the former to start with, thank you for reporting this. The problem I encountered the most often is actually the "items received" dialog boxes overwrite the toast notification and I missed seeing whether it is burned out or how long more for cool down.
I don't read everything in the toasts, but I just glance at the end to know if it's burned out or how much time is remaining.
Useless bit of trivia: with Redacted, if it says 5 seconds, it means I can immediately try to glyph again. With Prime, sometimes I hit a second 5 second message.
This is exactly the main problem, missing the notification and don't knowing if the portal is burned out or can wait for one more hack.
Would be nice to have a visual cue on the map.
No, we're talking about two related but different issues.
The toast notification does have a very short timeout. The easiest way to see this is to try to hack a portal twice using a drone. The "burned out" message stays on screen for 1 second. As Brian said, it should be trivial to extend this to a longer duration.
However, if a pop-up showing gear received from a previous hack is queued up to be shown, the toast notification just barely gets displayed before it is over-written by the pop-up dialog.
Agreed! Pogo change the stop from blue to purple and slowly change back to blue. Something similar could be added, like an spining ornament, but we're already used to message box and time, so it's not a priority, but would be nice.
This is the biggest issue with the toasts.
I can quite happily read the toasts if I'm not doing anything else, but most of the time I have the previous one or two portals' output windows coming out still when I try to find out when a portal will reset.
Extending the timeout will make some benefit but it won't solve the common case where the toast is dismissed within fractions of a second because a tap-to-dismiss box overrode it.
Like @Perringaiden mentioned Extending the timeout will not fix this dialog behaviour:
extending the timeout needs to happen; this particular bug report is NOT invalid because "other things need to get fixed too".
The intention was not to say this bug report is invalid but to give more info to NIA dev teams if they can find a solution to this toast message bug so that related bug gets fixed also at the same time once and for all.
I did upvote this bug report already yesterday.
@NianticBrian i see you marking other bugs as duplicate of this.
Can you tell us, if the Niantic dev team understands this problem, if they're working on it, and where it is on their roadmap?
if i feel that if things like this are being treated seriously, i have much more faith in Niantic moving forward. if all we're getting is lip service... then i'm just sad and won't recommend this to friends.
Or change the color of the hack buttons. Change the button background color from purple to crimson, slowly turning back to purple as the Portal cools down, and change the icon from white to light red until the moment the Portal becomes hackable.
This wouldn't fix the original issue of the toast notification dialogue disappearing too quickly, but it would give another visual indicator so that players aren't hacking over and over until the cooldown ends.
i love this suggestion. i want both...
also, this COULD be done client side. the client knows when you last hacked a portal.
this appears fixed in 2.75, toast messages are up longer.
Can we get a higher contrast color for the text?
Why cant I click on screen to get rid of the cooldown text,
It seems to run on a timer now?
And it is in the way,
I want to click anywhere outside the message to loose it but it doesnt go away.
Thx!
sadly i am not in charge of anything at niantic
this appears to be fixed now
Any updates on this @NianticBrian ?
