The curse of the Recursed

Yes! An AI oppenent is an idea with potential, but it makes the most sense as an event. If it works well, it could recur from time to time.

Same with an OPT-IN system of cursing recursed agents. It could work, but it would initially need a small scale trial. Perhaps Niantic could even contact some recursed agents and see if they'd be willing to be guinea pigs for the red curse.

  • @Pangarban :

An AI oppenent is an idea with potential, but it makes the most sense as an event.

If you're thinking an overwhelming opposition, that attacks and you have to beat it back, definitely.

As an AI that grows like a fungus or a virus, having it constantly active would be far better to allow it to spread into areas of low activity slowly, such that it doesn't become the dominant opponent unless you let it run wild. So always on, but slow growing, so that there's always an opponent to have some level of activity with.

  • One minor problem would be if you were heading a big op with 10 other of your faction on a specific date next week, spending real money on boats, gas, time off of work, etc., then you suddenly turn "red".

    "Whoops, sorry everyone".

    Totally disagree here.

In most cases I have seen, it is multiple people in each faction- unhappy with a few people on the same faction. ie "good actors" who want to avoid traditional team toxicity and form a new faction, often with members of the opposite faction.

That old "I'd flip but I heard it was even worse over there" type situation.

  • Guess it depends on who's the dominant group. I'd always experienced the toxic people being pushed out of the main group because they were toxic, instead of being in charge of it.

And flipping until the other team did the same.

Maybe going red could be a superpower rather than a punishment. You have a finite but replenishable amount of moves or time to do red actions and the ability to switch back and forth between red and your own faction.

    - Ability to destroy portals of your own faction. I know this could be controversial, but this would give players an ability to clear links from their own faction without using viruses. This would also give you a chance to knock off old mods you don't want anymore and replace them with new ones. It would also be useful for AP engines.

    - Ability to siphon off MU from the other faction. For example, deploying resonators on a field anchor of the other team. The amount of Mind Unit Control that would be added to your "now" tab would be subtracted from the opposing faction's checkpoint score and credited to the red faction. (This could be undone by the opposing faction if they go red or use a virus to take down their own anchor and rethrow.)

Why would someone from the other team help? Thats win trading then

And flip cards are extremely rare, this could be an interesting other option to add to that

That was the premise that you were already presenting. "Make my team member go to another faction (red) so they can **** my portals for me".

And flip cards are extremely rare

I have a capsule of 100 just sitting there unused.

It depends on reasons, which normal vary from person to person, you could disagree with the way the community was run/played/'bob doesn't appreciate me'/I'd like a fresh change or whatever.

Obviously different for areas and even different perspectives, but in my area the enl are the dominant faction (though we had a spell from just before new year to probably this month where we won, but thats more down to having to work.within local covid restrictions) and they seemed more interested in protecting the toxic people in their group and encouraging it to an extent (such as trying to intimidate new players out of the game if they won't jump ship, bullying players regularly. There's a horror story of a former res player who was caught cheating multiple times while res, then he flipped team and the enl.welcomef him with open arms, all past discretion and potential current ones forgiven)

I Wasn't saying extra faction, just the idea that an agen gets cursed for a time or till they destroy enough on both teams as the op suggested. And it wouldn't be a choice as to when it happened, but when it did, the teams player it happened to would probably be happy to get better fielding, it would open up new play styles for that time

You're lucky then, ive had about 5 in 2 months 3 jarvis and 2 ada, all of which I had to use instantly

  • That is way a 7-8 days warning was included in order for the agent (and local faction) to prepare.

@kiloecholima Superpower's .. hmm that could also be tested, but I think that extra hackoutput from portals is okay and being able to take portals from both faction's... that's superpower :-)

@Pangarban You can count me in ANY time for a test of this, and I believe I could get 5 others from my local area as well

  • By 'dominant', I'm not talking about faction vs faction. ENL can't fix RES and RES can't fix ENL.

I mean within a given faction, the dominant group of players can either be toxic, or not toxic. If you let the toxic players in your faction dominate the group, your faction will be toxic. And generally vice versa.

What if AI portals became linkable by any faction? This will force players to keep areas blocked and captured.

  • That would be largely impossible to code for Niantic, if their previous statements on cross faction portals are accurate.

Plus the point of an AI faction is to have someone to play against, even in a limited fashion. Allowing you to link to another faction (even an AI one) would disrupt the game in negative ways.

The way players would react would be the same as if the other existing faction owned the portal. Destroy it.
