In our cell (includes a city of ~1,000,000) our faction outnumbers the opposing faction nearly 40:5. There are 5 agents on our team that won't join our community, which is fine, but they are our biggest opponents by far because of their "if it shows it throws" mentality. I feel like several cells have this issue where one faction begins to dominate and the other quits leaving a horrible imbalance. 6 months before the pandemic, we started trying to recruit for the other team.
"The recent addition of Portal History and the Layers button to the Scanner app appears to have triggered a flash event" - this part makes it an event, not just random change of cooldowns and score points.
As an agent, I have questions about recent drone events. Like, what is known about drones? Developed by NIA in partnership with IQTECH, project shut down, then "a patch in the latest version of the Ingress Scanner enables Agents to initiate a secure connection to the Dronenet to commandeer one Low-Altitude, Short-Endurance (LASE) Mark I Drone to hack nearby Portals."
So. It appears that 60 minutes cooldown is not hard-wired into the drones, but can be configured from IQTECH or NIA network. Someone in their HQ (is it open during pandemic?), or someone with remote access, or maybe AI can sneak in, push the button, and reduce cooldown to 15 min. But why? Then, what does it mean, "Reduced kinetic capsule program distance"? Is it part of event-centric player engagement strategy? If that's true, we deserve free cheap plastic medals. But what if it is not what it seems?
I'm taking advantage of the 4 mods to work on Engineer this weekend. Only about 1000 fully modded portals away... who else is going for it? I'm sure I won't make it to Plat (my next level) but I intend at least to get a lot closer!
The cooldown is a server setting as is almost every time related setting in the game. They can change it essentially 'at will'.
The kinetic program length is configurable on the server as well. I'm not sure if it's universal or specific to each program, but it's definitely easily configurable.
Adding new patterns is as easy as sending new patterns out to the client as well.
These are all easily modified settings, there are no hard limits. However, the factor that they consider is the gameplay and balance. Too many VR shields and Link Amps due to Quantums made them remove the replication of VR items. Kinetic Capsules require a level of effort to reproduce, but they can tweak that level as they see fit, and they're still in the "norming" phase of the feature so they're seeing what different levels do, to educate them on how motivated people are by the program length.

These mini events to keep players active are appreciated
Agreed. We have enough people who "if it shows it throws" This just feeds poor linking and fielding.

Second that!

Do you want the in-character, or real explanation for those questions?

Thank you for the event make happy
The drone could use the 4 hackers of the neutral portal!
are there any other mini events planned?
Previous 2021 special events where announced on February 19 & January 28 (excluding the Lunar event).
So let's hope to see a new one soon 😊 but I guess we have to wait 1 more week.
