Is playing after curfew / during lockdown against TOS ?

xf Comm is flooded by gestapo style message, saying xxx is going to be report because he's playing 5min after curfew, or with a message for each action, stalking every move.

Creepy stalking from nearly non active players has become so common and really sad especially as most of players who work have a derogation to be outside after curfew.

But do those comm threat and harassment to be reported have to be taken seriously ?

Do Niantic really care about curefew / lockdown as most of us are adult and if those who play when they shouldn't will just be fined and assume what they're doing.

Spoofers not being banned i would feel sad if anyone got banned for playing after curfew 😅

Comments

  • Certain people can be exempt from the lockdown rules (due to their job or other valid reasons)

It would be impossible for Niantic to both know regional lockdown rules and know who is exempt

  • Niantic is not the police.

If someone is breaking curfew, report them to the appropriate authorities. If they care enough, that person won't be playing much Ingress anyway. If they don't care, why should Niantic?

  • Also, if someone is accusing you of cheating, you can just report them to Niantic for harassment.

It's against the TOS to accuse people of cheating.

Tough to say. I agree with the other comments that action shouldn't be taken by Niantic, but #Calvinball, when it comes to action taken against reported ToS violations (and non-violations) there seems to be no rhyme or reason to how Niantic responds.

Ingress is a play at your own risk game.

    It's a law enforcement issue.

As stated above, do not accuse players of cheating on COMM as you can get a strike against you for it.

If someone is threatening to report you, quietly report them/block them on COMM whatever.

  • What country has a curfew?

As stated above report and block people for harassment.

France is currently under 6pm curfew (damn boring)

People tagged every day on comm while coming back from work report them, not that usefull as it seems 😅

I was more wondering if niantic ever took action for those reasons

Tl;dr: not because the pandemic, but you maybe can use this information to identify spoofers easier.

I did managed to get a spoofer banned because of this, because the location was entirely locked (well, just the only entrance it had) but it was on it's first day of lockdown and almost no one knew about that so the spoofer just get in as if was regular open day. Coincidentally I was just in front of the entrance like 45 minutes before the attack alerts and went back there as soon as I noticed the attacks, both time really closed with no way to access, and the portals that go destroyed and captured were like 200m away from the entrance (there was a block from me there). I asked the person how it get in, but it just got triggered and stated to entered it normally.

I sent the pictures and made a report and TR, it took almost a month but the portals got restored and the vanguard confirmed me that Niantic would only took action to restore the portal IF the bad actor got punishment/confirmation of spoofing.

Weirdly, the player didn't get a permaban. I thought in cases of spoofing they didn't just warn. But the agent lost sojourner count and disappeared for exactly a month. Maybe it was just banned for harassment, because after this incident we noticed a lots of meaningful description edits on portals around my house, one of them with my name and offensive things.
