Ingress team. Is this something we might see in some form eventually? Or completely off the table?

At this point they have to add objectives to the game. The game is losing players and not gaining new agents due to a lack of objectivity. 3 other games niantic has a part of and they are all story line based. It should be a priority to bring in some QOL features even bringing in a true 3D over world with customizable avatars like pogo. The game needs new life. Ingress feels more like a product incubator for the other games than an actual game there just no depth to it.

Would be cool if ada and jarvis gave small objectives to players all optional to complete or not. I think this would be good to those players little bored with most badges onyx...

There could even be a badge for it. There could even be two badges. One for doing ADA tasks and one for doing Jarvis Tasks, and you would have to flip teams at recursion to own both.

  • Encouraging people to flip factions is a "super bad idea".

  • I'd love them to create a daily thing in regards to drones specifically. They were created with the intention of allowing agents to play within the limitations of the pandemic, and so daily tasks with it sound reasonable.

It would add more dimension to them too, could label them XM research tools, and the daily tasks are delving into finding out more about XM without exposing agents to the effects. An entire storyline can be built off it!

Rewards could then be implemented such as:

    • small caches of Chaotic Matter (Incentive to get premium currency for playing daily)
    • A drone researcher badge for daily tasks completed
    • maybe even augmenting drones at a later date

I feel like if they were to implement daily tasks, attaching it to something both new to ingress in general AND accessible to all agents regardless of location and situation would be the best way forward

  • What is good about daily/weekly or long-term tasks (quests basically) is the focus and the sense of achievement. Besides, they require versatile actions, so it keeps your mind fresh and busy on thinking on newer tactics.

I understand the world is still shaking with COVID aftermath (and in some areas it's still raging), but adding those tasks in-app will take time and effort. I'd rather the company use the 'at-home' time for implementing and testing, so that we get those new features polished and de-bugged once we are all free to roam our countries as we used to before the pandemic.

  • Would players be more interested in daily, or weekly tasks? Or a combination of both?

  • Personally, I'd say something similar to PoGo where you can hold X tasks, and complete them in parallel for a small reward but a weekly reward of something larger can only be claimed one task per day.

  • If you like to have daily tasks and rewards, go and play PoGo

  • Why? What would be the downside of generating directed activity?

Tasks are not a core feature of PoGo's gameplay, they're just a way to encourage activity, and would serve the same purpose in Ingress.

Combination of both, have tasks that can be done daily (either by bei g given them or by finding them similar to.pogo) that give minor rewards, say like a leveled or a few leveled buster/reso/cube for things like, capturing 5 portals, fully deploying a portal etc. then have weekly tasks that are a lot harder to do such as 1000 hacks, x amount of mu, x amount of fields, destroying lots of resos, with rewards scaling to how.many you managed to pull off, but nothing majorly ott, say you got 10 tasks, the prize for 10 tasks might be a vr heat sink, vr multi hack, vr shield and 20 busters/resos, with say 7 done giving rares and 20, 4 giving the rares, 1 giving commons of each. Just spit balling that, some people.mught say that's op, though I don't think it's too much

Can daily tasks be even implemented without the RWP server?

    Daily/weekly tasks would be nice

Ingress is likely the only modern game without daily tasks

Every other game I play has them.

  • Can daily tasks be even implemented without the RWP server?

Anything can be done, on the current servers. RWP's benefit was that the work wouldn't be done specifically by the Ingress team duplicating RWP work. Given that Prime could leverage a lot of the UI and client data structures, it'd probably be another case of "Server work with a bit of UI customization" like Kinetic capsules seemed to be.
