You’ve asked this before, we’ve talked about this before, and nothing has changed. It was in Brian’s interview with FevGames staff. The process and cost of designing the 3D avatars, testing them to make sure they work, publishing them in the game, etc outweighs the income made from them.
In other words, not enough people were interested in the avatars and were not willing to pay for them. So after the first batch it was clear there wasn’t enough public interest. Why make something that’s not going to bring a profit? They were a good idea, and it may be revisited one day, but as of right now there’s just not enough interest to make them viable. More people are interested in the pay-to-access medals.
Hope we can get lots of new avatars in foture. I now only like pay for new avatars.
I dont know way medals are more interesting. We look 1 time on medala and soon not fun. Avatars we use when we play often and have fun.
I hope Niantic dont stop and never make new avatars. The can test new cheaper ways and agents can send in with AI and camera and easy make lots new avatars Niantic can test or vanguard or other people can help Niantic test it out for free. Lots to do to get it more cheaper for Niantic.
I think they went the wrong way with the avatars. Maybe a customizable one, with little tweaks could work better. I'm thinking something like a spaceship/car 3d model, being able to change the wings, pilot, stickers, etc. After the base model being done, they could just release new textures on the store.
Way more interesting to buy medals in store and not avatars we use often? We only look few times on profile and medals.
I dont know way agents are interesting of buy medals. But both agents and Niantic say more interesting of buy medals not new avatars when only few agents buy avatars.
Why? Individual choices and preferences. You can't understand someone else's think.
From company side, they're obviously going for the more lucrative patch. Badges are easier to make (2D simple sprite that can be done in half a hour, again a complex 3D model) that generate more profit (more players buying a simple/basic badger rather a complex avatar).
Remember that Ingress is desperately in need of money, so have to balance production costs and profit.
They can make cool new 2 avatats Hank Johnson and Hank Johnson Junior and we get sound from them if we click. Lots more cool avatars Niantic can relese.
I think both sides are right. I mean, designing a 3D avatar is obviously much more time-demanding than a 2D medal and therefore more expensive but I do believe it would be awesome to have a wider range of cool avatars like the NL-1331 van. A kind of drone avatar could be a further option. Besides, it would be a pity not being able to choose an avatar for the archetypes who are actually missing, since we just have 4 out of 13 right now.
I have personally purchased every single avatar available (I just switch my avatar occasionally when I get bored of seing always the same one) and most of the medals. They are not incompatible!
Moreover, I'm sure these months they're already earning much more money thanks to the C.O.R.E. subscription program.
In terms of development, the problem is that the revenue from a single Avatar is not always as much as the cost of development. And that becomes more and more true, when you add more avatars. When the options are diluted, people are less likely to buy each and every one, reducing the revenue, making adding new Avatars less profitable.
And since Avatars are literally only to provide revenue that becomes a losing equation.
Maybe the ingress team can do us a favor and release a new avatar, just to quiet him down. But I’m afraid it’s like Shawshank redemption and he’ll just double down on his efforts if there is even a glimmer of hope, lolol

Keep hoping, someday they release a new one.

Hank has a kid? That news to me.
Here old Hank called new Hank Junior.
When we get lots of new avatars in store? @NianticBrian i dont need bad medals in store i never look at.
You’ve made your opinion on this PLENTY clear, very very often, in WAY TO MANY threads. Please, STOP. It is getting very annoying.
also, “Hank junior” is Prime Hank. It was just a nickname to tell the difference between 1218 Hank and Prime Hank.

Why did you bump this? You got your answer initially.
