Options in reporting an invalid portal

Niantic allows a player to report an invalid portal using the following reasons: (1) no pedestrian access; (2) obstructs or interferes with emergency services; (3) private residential property; (4) school ( up to K-12); (5) permanently removed from the location; and (6) duplicate of another portal.

Will Niantic also include another option to remove a portal associated with Confederate statues or memorials since those are associated with racial injustice or racism?

    Who cares. portal is portal.

Did you look at the definition of portal or are you coming from Pokemon Go?

Given recent events I'm sure the real world monuments will eventually get removed, then they can be removed from the game.

Who knows, if you write a compelling enough reason on wayfarer forums they may remove it.

In Spain we have monuments of our previous dictator which need to be removed (but it's not done) by law, so I understand the concerns of this person.

I recommend bringing this up on the Wayfarer forum. I have seen Niantic remove a portal that was... how should I put this... 'racially insensitive' due to a player report... but they may need it to be more obviously offensive than just a statue of a historical figure to trigger removal.

Is this related to NianticCasey's original comment (which now appears deleted??)

We are removing Confederate statues and monuments, with the exception of those tied to historical battlegrounds, museums and other notable locations. It’s become clear these do not provide an inclusive environment for our community and furthermore represent symbols of oppression and glorify slavery. This is part of our ongoing commitment to use our platform to stand in support of the Black community and reject racism.

This is probably more of a Wayfarer issue regardless. It's funny how Niantic pick and choose whatever political stances they want, but they can't come up with a consistent ruling across the board.

Just to play devils advocate here and highlight what I know is an unpopular position... politics and social issues aside, as a private company they are perfectly welcome to pick and choose whatever they want to include or exclude from their POI database. For example, if they want to exclude swimming pools but include every "local hotspot" sandwich shop (both of which I disagree strongly with, btw), they are free to do so, and even though I may not agree with it I'll respect their position and play by their rules when reviewing in wayfarer.

I definitely agree that they need to be more consistent, though, as consistency in applying their rules and standards (not just wrt the POI database!) has been a MAJOR issue for years...

As pointed out by oscar1 and grsmhiker, Niantic has been ambiguous in its rules/standards and delivers mixed messages to its clients (players). An example is introducing a BLM beacon, but allowing portals associated with racial injustices. It is ironic to think that a company like Niantic has social impact projects that support people of color, yet it cannot deliver a consistent message to its clients. Thank you for all the input and for participating in a courteous discourse.
