Alshamal Shriners

A number of months back an agent submitted a portal at what they assumed to be a good location.

This is a Shriner's facility. Normally this would probably be a good portal candidate.

During the winter months the owners of the Facility had a fence and electronic gate installed and bought no trespassing signs, but had not had the time or cooperative weather to install them. They had been having problems with people in the parking lot stunting and refusing to leave when asked. Rather than have their staff confront these people going forward they opted for the fence and gate.

When the portal was added, one of our agents went to capture the portal, she pulled into the parking lot and the open gate closed behind her locking her inside. She called for help and we found her behind the gate and no way to open the gate from the outside. Side access was pad locked. She had the option of crawling over barbwire or rolling through the snow under the gate, leaving the vehicle behind.

After some searching around the building doors, she was able to find a contact number for the security company who then contacted the owner. She got an angry call from the owner and was given a code to enter into the gate controls to open the gate and get out.

Our local Pokemon facebook group tried to use this opportunity to label her as a trespasser when the gate was open and no signage had been posted yet. After this I asked they remove the accusation and went to the Shriners to speak with them in person. They do not want the portal there, they don't want the extra traffic. We sorted out all that could be sorted/apologies both ways and I offered to attempt to remove the portal.

I've now tried to have the portal removed twice and have now been denied twice. I've sent photos of the fencing, gate, now posted signage, videos of the trapped agent, and the photo of our agent trapped behind the gate has now been approved as a portal photo. <- really.

Most of our senior agents know to stay away from the portal, but it's tough to explain to new agents especially on the other side that they run the risk of being trapped inside the lot, especially after hours.

What's my next step, what information can I pass along to the owner to get this sorted for good,? I'd prefer to keep my word in that regard.

Can't seem to post links yet, here's the tail of the intel url.

Appreciated.

It may be better that the owner requests Niantic remove the portal. With proof that they own/manage the site, I believe this carries more weight with Niantic than our reports as Ingress agents.

You can find the links by looking at the Portal Network section of the Niantic help pages, or by Googling for "pokestop removal" and for me the top result was the right page on the pokemongolive site.

  • I've forwarded this thread to the owner, so any details anyone can provide them in addition to the above would be appreciated. Thanks kittysu.
