@NianticBrian I like the method of requiring more than 0AP, but hopefully this will be communicated to all the players out there who don't actually play, to get them to log in again. I expect some will be miffed they didn't realize it was a requirement if they do come back to play.
Also, this still isn't the new "fingerprint looking" badge we were teased earlier. Is there any more on that?
I like the badge, but I'm a slow-and-steady player and I have bronze, silver, and gold year medals up to now. I really want Platinum this year but I'm on the verge of L16 and am afraid to play at all until year badges come out for fear of getting the Onyx level and missing my chance for a complete set. What is the cutoff date for the badge level? If I'm level 15 tomorrow but 16 on Thursday will I still get my Platinum? Should I just wait and do nothing until the badges are out?
I did the same back in my days, slow **** to get the yearbadges in all colours. Didn’t play much the double AP week just before I reached lvl16 for the first time.
I think it's great that we needed to get at least 1 AP, so inactive accounts stop receiving annual badges.
However, in the future I would like to see the badge level be based on the amount of AP you earned in the year, not just the level that you may have gotten years ago. So, for example, anyone who earned 20 million AP woud get onyx, 15 million would get platinum, etc. The exact numbers don't matter, the point is that the level should be based on your involvement in the year the medal represents. This way even a player who started mid year would have a decent chance of earning a higher level badge, but a player who used to play loads but now only plays a little bit may earn a lower level badge than before.
To do this, it would have to be announced early in the year, but it is something that might revitalize the game because some players who have slacked off recently might become more active in order to earn the top medal.
This may work in cities, but I'd have to imagine it would be an extremely hard ask for rural players. I know many agents that are extremely active but have very little game infrastructure to interact with unless they drive for 4 or 5 or more hours.
The badge isn't for levelling. It's specifically designed that for almost every breakpoint it's essentially useless. It's recognition of an event, not a real "gameplay" badge.

1 hour after I bought a full price 8 apex bundle :-/
You've seen what happened in Eos protocol. I think is a good reason to do that.
Badge looks nice. A few more hundred thousand AP to ensure I get the Platinum
Yay, for me this is the first black one :D
Mine have been black since the beginning but I'm back up to 16 again so it feels justified 😁
Thank you for releasing what the badges look like! The hype is real! :D
I like this badge it looks good. Its based on lemniscate.

You sure it's not the resonance that happened after the Tessellation got reconfigured?
Lol always the way :-) i have a stash of apex. Going to buy the pack just got to get room .... 😁
Doesn't mean the #IngressYear7 Badge will not be updated as onyx for level 16 (new and no plan to recursed).? 🤔
Read more carefully, it says lvls 16 and recursed will get the onyx badge
Yes I know that this year #IngressYear8 will get the badge lvl16 and recursed will get the onyx badge..
I'm just wondering the last year badge year 7 " Resurgence" medal badge will not be updated unless you need to be recursed to get the onyx badge
Your previous Year Badges don’t get updated. They’re meant to reflect where you were as an Agent at the time.
Thank you for clarification 😊
On Reddit, someone mentioned that it looked like the logo for The Silph Road, so thought I’d share that here too.
Happy Birthday Ingress! Cheers to you and many years to come!

Oh and here are some penguins!
PS. I got some pendings down here...

Sooo... It was supposed to be pushed yesterday, actually 26 hours ago. What happened?
The original post said only "some time after Phase 1." It usually takes Niantic a few days to a couple weeks to sort it all out.
Soon™
Way we dont get no pop up message in Ingress Prime about Year 8 when medal relese?
Make 8 red in medal for all agents Recursion.

@NianticBrian
Weird grey-ish Onyx medal...
Yearly medals don't usually get a pop up message. They use a script to credit agents.

Just a thought.

It is really boring being "doomed" to always get the onyx with no effort.
But I actually want them to change the tiers. It has became really easy to achieve lv16. Maybe next year onyx could be only for recursed agents.

How about offering a winged badge if you recursed at least once?
