I think it would be way cool if heat sinks reduced drone cooldown too. This way it would be possible to create drone highways from a row of portals by placing 4 good heat sinks on them! Vroom vroom😁
Nope. Drones are used for hacking, that's the only portal interaction drones are capable of. Therefore it makes perfect sense for heat sinks to have this effect on them🙂
I disagree. That would be more like a multi hack. The idea of the Drone cooling down faster would make it possible to move it sooner. However, I do agree that if one mod affects the Drone they all should. And in that case one could use the multi hack.
I generally park my Drone where 2 high level portals are in reach and just go back and forth.
The OP was wanting to use heat sink which wouldn't allow farming L8 to no end,, just moving it faster. While I was agreeing that drones don't need to be affected by mods, in reality if you put your Drone in the right place, you get the same effect and since anyone can put their Drone on any portal, would it really be unbalanced?
In my opinion, unbalanced means that one player or faction has access to something that the other does not. If everyone can access things the same it seems balanced to me. We have a problem in my location with secure portals being used. Like if you don't have an authorized **** escort with you, you aren't getting anywhere near the portal. Not everyone can access the portal. Even both teams cannot access the portal. That is unbalanced.
@nemo113 you and many others are thinking to micro, and not the bigger picture.
Example,
Catan brought in Totems, being the swiss army knife of the game, and I can tell you that it has upset the game balance to an extreme extent, because everyone has it, worst of all, having to battle in an unwinnable way on foot, due to lazy players and bad actors.
This does not mean that it suddenly enables good game balance with everyone having it.
Similar philosophy for Ingress Drones. To apply a heatsink type effect, essentially enables lazy and bad actors to harvest resources by moving the drone more often.
Or essentially saying spoofing is ok. Spoofing is not ok.
But bad actors think that way.
Which was already a bit of a problem when people were lucky enough to have couch or work portals.
I agree some portals are accessible by some players, this the inherent of the nature of strategy games, to find a work around.
If both factions cannot access a portal safely, it should be deleted.
If Niantic decided to separate out Drone_Jump_Cooldown and Drone_Hack_Cooldown, then this is something that may be beneficial in the version 2 of the drone. Right now, these two things are tied together

Don't make sense since the limit on drones are movement and not hacking speed.
A new mod would be required for that.

It would unbalance the game, with people remotely farming a P8 to no end
I'm more interested in making the drone ranger higher. Like portals with link amps being able to sent the drone to 1km
but you can already send the drone to 1km

You just stated EXACTLY how it would unbalance the game

They're called portal mods. Heat sinks or any other mod would be applied to the portal, not the drone.

Theoretically if a drone draws its power from a portal it might draw it's portal from a modded portal faster.
