Portal Scanning- More Incentive Please *ideas inside*

I've consistently heard Ingress players complain about portal scanning since it was introduced with the main complaint being the lack of incentives/rewards for completing a scan. Wayspot scanning was just implemented in Pokemon GO recently and after seeing screenshots of the implementation, it was interesting seeing the task rewards associated with completing scans such as PokeBalls, Pokemon encounter, etc IN ADDITION to tracked badge/medal stats. If something similar was introduced in Ingress, I think portal scans might catch on within our community.

Rewards in the scanner could be similar to a perfect glyph hack item output at the scanned portals level, or maybe a hack with a 2x or 5x or 10x chance at receiving a VR item from the scan/hack output. Implementation could be tricky where items are received when the scan is uploaded and the items could or couldn't exceed inventory capacity (exceeding normal inventory capacity in this way could be another incentive). I think portal scanning (and the features it could lead to) is a cool idea, I just need more incentive to do it!

I would just be happy with AP, it is an action after all and should count.

Maybe 100 AP per second, so people would achieve 1500AP as a minimum and can get 3000AP for performing a scan for the full length of the recording. It may sound like a lot, but those of us that are scanning are sacrificing actual gameplay time to perform free labour. Scanning isn't part of the joy or gameplay of Ingress, it's just work, so an equivalent reward in AP would be a nice justification of our time and effort.

Also back-fill the AP for those of us that have been dedicated to scanning since the beginning.

Don't forget about people who scan portals as such for example:

    1) Scan ground near the portal while walking by without even looking at the portal.

    2) Scan the street from the window while riding a bus or a tram, without looking at the portal too.

You want them to have such bonuses also? Portal Scanning is currently just as useless for agents as it was during its introduction. The badges, stats and scout controller stuff is a pathetic try to force us to do more labor, that's all. I want to see the results of my scans. The resulting 3D (or whatever) model with tips what angles or lighting conditions require more data.

Even then this won't be enough for me to make me scan portals because I don't want to unlock the ridiculous scout controller.

Some pokemon players are already seeing the results of the scans and making internet-chain-movements to incentive player to NOT scan anything, because there is pokestop and gym being removed after scanned.

I don't have a side on this kind of discussion because both sides are right: Niantic using scan data to update the portal network, removing the ones that doesn't fit, and on the other side the players who have no real incentive to do it. Ingress got 2 badges and one pokemon some really bad prizes (could at least be some exclusive pokemon for this method).

Agreed. There really needs to be some sort of punishment for abuse, but I have no idea how Niantic can algorithmically differentiate between abuse and a legit scan. Almost seems like something else that would need to be community-reviewed, though I can't see ANYONE being willing to do that reviewing.
