Please add an option to disable one finger rotation

ingress is a game where every second counts.

there has been countless times when I've been trying to hit a portal on the screen just to have it infuriatingly rotate instead of actually hit the portal. which resulted in me missing the portal as it moves away from the focus or disorienting the map, or just being a nuisance in general. one finger rotation might be useful in your " other " games which I have absolutely no interest in, but here in ingress it is nothing but extremely annoying thing which I would love to be able to disable.

I've tried hard to get used to it ever since redacted was permanently removed, and no, one finger rotation does not work for 99% of these things that I do with ingress.

a single tap or a long press on the screen should result in nothing but immediately selecting or doing an activity with a portal nothing else not changing rotation not changing zoom not changing anything else. any kind of activity like that should require a specific two finger gesture.

anyone who disagrees with post has probably never used reducted or never been frustrated by the rotation feature kicking in when all you want to do is select a portal or long press + swipe to keyless hack.

edit: in ingress, primary action on the screen is doing something, not rotation. so I'm not sure whose idea it was to make it so that a single tap defaults to rotation but this is wrong and does not make the game any better.

There's a difference between touching the screen and sliding your finger on it.

This is already the case. If you're accidentally rotating the screen, then it sounds like you're sliding your finger and not actually tapping or pressing in a single spot.

At this point, I've spent more time playing on Redacted than I have Prime. I personally find the one-finger rotate in Prime to be quite handy for one-handed play. I'm also not opposed to making it an option. That hurts nothing, except maybe the settings UI.

  • While I am a big fan of the 1 finger rotate, and for the most part the Prime touch interactions, there is one that constantly frustrates me.

    Please Remove Transitive Drags!

When I'm glyphing and a hack aborts midway through the command channel, I do NOT EVER want to rotate the map. That's not an issue with one finger rotation, it's an issue that the touch has continued through the transition from one screen to another. Do not automatically react to an in-progress touch when a screen transition occurs. Wait for a new down touch event.

  • And the latter is needed for doing quick keyless hacks, long press and swipe right (or left for key).

More often than not, the above will register as a rotate instead of long press action.

  • I not saying I'm a fan of 1-finger rotation, but people had been eagerly waiting for this feature for ages. As others have suggested, maybe you should review how you are pressing things on your screen. A stationary tap vs a tap with a slight slide. Sometimes this messes me up when a long-press is needed to select multiple photos to share or delete.
